Random/Unexpected Roles By Actors/Actresses
So I just realized that Billy Bob Thorton was in, "Love Actually"...and that got me thinking....what are other actors/actresses have popped up in films, and you've been like, 'WTF are they doing in this?!'

I don't know if it fits in with the theme of your thread, but Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time In the West was one of the most effective and startling performances against type in cinema history.

Mickey Rourke in Animal Factory.
Rourke playing an inmate in prison...No big deal. But check out what kind of inmate he is!

How about the voice of James Earl Jones in Click? "He does a lot of voiceover work."

Tom Cruise in Born on the Fourth of July. Up to this point, most of his films (other than Rain Man) didn't appeal to me; it was almost always some pretty boy and/or teen heartthrob role. I was very pleasantly surprised at his powerful performance of Ron Kovic.
Jim Carrey in Doing Time on Maple Drive. This was a TV (dramatic) movie on Fox, and I think it aired when Carrey was still doing his over-the-top comedy shtick on "In Living Color." Big contrast in his acting there.
