Subtitles on Boogie Nights (New Line Platinum release) - Manu/Production error?

I'm just curious if there is a known problem with viewing subtitles on the Boogie Nights, New Line Platinum release.

I purchased one copy at Best Buy and couldn't get English, Spanish, or French subtitles to work on 3 different computers or a standalone DVD player. I exchanged the copy for another thinking it was just a defective DVD, but I encountered the same problem with the new disc. Thus, I was wondering if there was a bad run of these. Any others experience or know about this problem?

Thanks for the help!
-Pete

you might have to go to the main menu and physically select the subtitles (also i think it only has english subs.)

Trust me, I've tried all the usual suspects...

--Selecting subtitles in the main menu (it has English, French, and Spanish)
--Trying to select subtitles in WMP and PowerDVD

Interestingly, the subtitles option in program menus for WMP and PowerDVD are both greyed out, but I can get closed captioning to work???!!!

I've had DVDs for 8 years now and this is the first time I've ever encountered anything like this.

My DVD does the same thing; I had bought mine from Columbia House. Only the closed captioning option works, but nothing shows up from any of the three subtitle options.

Maybe it was an authoring error (i.e., it was put into the menu design but no such feature exists?). A lot of reviews mentions the subtitle options, but since practically no one seems to use that when watching DVDs, no one seemed to have pick up on its absence.

Then there's that pesky audio problem with barely anything coming from the rear speakers (English 5.1 only).
