Wow. I guess the 6 - 9 months of commercials we'd been seeing paid off handsomely.

I didn't start seeing commercials til Jan. '07 but even that was impressive to me, it's rare to see a movie advertised that far in advance that wasn't tried and true.

Shame Zodiac isn't doing better, that was a very good flick.

I'd been seeing them in my market since about August 2006.

And I've been seeing them since September 2006. After going to see this last night and finding out that the theater was showing it on 4 screens and that all of them were sold out for yesterday and today (luckily we got our tickets a few days ago), I'm not surprised at all by the totals. I haven't seen things like this at a movie theater since The Matrix Reloaded.

Goes to show what a good trailer/ads can do for your movie.

Big wow! Looks like 300 is on its way to largest March opening and having the third highest R-rated opening ever.

depends if it's front loaded or not. It may be very close with Ice Age.

Wow! It deserves all it makes. If it cost as little to make as "Sin City" did this will be a mega-blockbuster. Shows how far cgi has come and that blockbusters in actual sprawling landscapes isn't always the better for it.

Great to see a niche movie with no names do so great. I loved it and think many will continue to.

These are very impressive numbers (even though they include the midnite screenings on Thurs. night...).
Finally some love for an R-rated film...
It is a shame that Zodiac is bombing because that was a better film IMO and i was more entertained and impressed by it...But 300 is a fine film but isn't anything near Sin City quality...

It already has the record nailed for second highest R-rated opening day. The Matrix Reloaded was at $28 million whereas Passion of the Christ was at $26 million.

I wonder how much it would have made if you take away those movie cash tickets given away by Best Buy? I'm thinking it prolly would have made like $10 million on Friday.

I seriously doubt the movie cash accounted for $17.7m worth.

Looks like it will be break even by the end of today..

The boxoffice return of 300 is amazing (Hmmm.. has it something to do with the Free Movie Cash from Alexander Revisited DVD or the last Bestbuy Free "300" movie ticket?... how many Bestbuys chain there was? and each store gave away 90 free promo disc and ticket)

Box office doesn't suprise me. I don't think I've seen a movie more advertised on the internet than 300.

Considering how terrible Warner Bros. year was last year in terms of box office, I'm sure they are ecstatic about this opening.
