DVD Firsts...

I was just curious if anyone knew the following:

First dual layer studio release

Fist multi disk set

First DVD set to come in wide case (like Forrest Gump)

First Anamorphic dvd

First disk to contain multiple disk trays in a slim case (First on I got was Gladiator)

First to come in overlaping disk cases (first one I got was Mystic River Secial Edition)

Anyhoo I'm just curious on these things. Thanks for your help guys.

I think that was the first DVD-18, not the first dual-layer (which would only be a DVD-9 or single sided, double layered).

How bout we do this for our collections?

First Dual layer: Cyborg (8/22/97)
First multi-disc set: Dances with Wolves : theatrical release (1/26/99)
First dvd in double amaray case: The Abyss (3/21/2000)
First anamorphic: Eraser (3/9/97)
First 2-dvd set in single-size amaray case: Armageddon : criterion (4/20/99)
First to come in Overlapping package: Cinderella Man SE (12/6/05)

A couple more I came up with -
First single movie release that had more than 2 discs: Pearl Harbor Vista series (7/2/02)
First dvd with a slipcover: Close Encounters of the Third Kind (5/29/01)

You aren't thinking back far enough. The very first release of "T2," which was in a snapper, was in fact the first dual-layer DVD release.

I think the first DVD-18 was "Aquaria" (a fishtank to have on in the background, like the ones with a fireplace).

I don't know about the first anamorphic disc, but the majority of Warner and Columbia's first titles were anamorphic. If we're going worldwide, it was probably one of the titles released in Japan in late 1996 before the US launch, such as The Fugitive or Eraser.

I am guessing that the first wide case was Criterion's edition of Armageddon. Was that not the first 2-disc set, which would make it two firsts?

I looked once and the earliest full season set I was able to find was X-Files Season 1 on 5/9/2000. There were shows before then being released in season order but one volume at a time. Monty Python's Flying Circus comes to mind there. They started the single volumes that were eventually repacked in the mega-set on 9/28/1999.
