I've watched this movie twice now. I liked it slightly better the second time. The first half is pretty darn badass. Crazy fights, twists left and right, unintentional comedy, etc. It's a blast. Once he gets to Mars, the movie becomes messy, and only moments here and there, are entertaining.

Does anyone else share this opinion, or have any thoughts?

This is a great Ah-nuld movie.

I honestly never had a problem after he got his ass to Mars. I do like the dual plotline that the movie could possibly have.

I can remember countless times asking people if they remember this movie and they would say no, then I'd mention the hooker with three breasts and suddenly people would remember the movie.

I love this movie. My favorite Arnold action flick, with just so many memorable lines to actually go with a smart plot.

I re-watched this DVD again recently and promptly moved it to the "WTF was I thinking when I bought this??/Give away to my brother-in-law" pile.

I can't believe someone wants to give this away. Its a great movie. Verhoeven does Sci Fi really well (i even didn't mind Hollow Man too much). He needs to get back into it making these movies. Arnold has some great lines, the action is fantastic and the effects for the time were great.

The movie needed one more twist at the end. Like Arnold was actually one of the aliens (which would explain how he was able to activate the machine). Or I've heard people suggest the whole movie was a dream, so you could have Arnold wake up at the end. (But personally, I hate movies that end like that. Unless it's The Wizard of Oz.)

On topic: I think this movie is alright. I did buy it when it came in the "limited edition tin" and have yet to open it, so it isn't real high on my favorites list.

I love Arnold, and even enjoyed Commando with it's cardboard (literally!) enemies, but TR just sucked in the second half. And the eyes-bugging out at the end was ridiculous on so many levels - obviously mannequins, even on VHS; melting ice does not release oxygen, etc. - that just sealed the deal for me.

Len Wiseman is in negotiations to direct "Total Recall," Columbia's remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi action movie directed by Paul Verhoeven.

The studio and producer Neal Moritz are aiming for a contemporized adaptation of the movie, which was based on Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale."

It followed a man haunted by a recurring dream of journeying to Mars who buys a literal dream vacation from a company called Rekall Inc., which sells implanted memories. The man comes to believe he is a secret agent and ends up on a Martian colony, where he fights to overthrow a despotic ruler controlling the production of air.

The movie explored one of Dick's favorite topics, reality vs. delusion, as audiences never knew whether or not the story was a dream.

It is unknown as this time whether the new script, begin written by Kurt Wimmer, will follow a similar path.

Wiseman, repped by ICM, is best known for writing, directing and producing the moneymaking vampire vs. werewolf "Underworld" franchise for Screen Gems.

(He wrote and directed the first two and produced the third installment.) He last directed "Live Free or Die Hard" and recently entered the TV world by helming the pilot for CBS's remake of "Hawaii Five-0."

^ Guess it was only a matter of time. Before I even read Wimmer was involved, I automatically thought of potential casting for the protagonist: Christian Bale.

Also, Rosie O'Donnell as the talking/exploding fake head that he will wear as a disguise.

So will this be a remake of the movie or will it actually be based on the very short story by Philip K. Dick? I'm guessing the former as the latter is only a few pages long.

Where as in Inception, this is one example where it has all been a dream doesn't work.
