Who could play Lucas McCain in a movie version of The Rifleman?

The Rifleman is my favorite TV western of all time (hence my username) and I've often tried to figure out if they made a movie version of The Rifleman, who could play Lucas? It would have to be someone who was tall and looked like he didn't take crap off ANYONE while still being a concerned loving Dad. I think Brad Garrett fits the size criteria but he would be too goofy. I had also thought about Mel Gibson, Russell Crowe, Nathan Fillion, Sawyer from Lost, and Tommy Lee Jones but none of them sound right. I think Robert Duvall as Micah Torrance would work but who could play Lucas? Thoughts?

I did a spit take (literally) when I read Brad Garrett's name!

I'd throw out Kevin Costner and Kurt Russel's names.

I know Brad Garrett would be a horrible choice, but he was the only one I could think of that's as big of a guy as Chuck Connors was.

Really??? I don't know... Chuck Conners could have killed a man just by staring at him with his steely-eyed gaze. He seemed (to me anyway) a very intimidating presence. I don't think of Ben Affleck that way.

Ah, I've got no actor to contribute.. just remembering on Married.. with Children how they were talking about The Rifleman being single.. and Al remarks "I always thought that's who he was blowing away at the opening of each show."

That's pretty good.

I think Sean Bean would be awesome.
