Another "movie-to-stage" version: this time, it's THE FLY as an opera!
I'm not making this up ....
New York Times - January 17, 2007
David Cronenberg is to direct a new opera based on his 1986 movie "The Fly," which starred Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, above. Announcing the project, the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris said the opera, also called "The Fly," would be composed by Howard Shore, who wrote the film's score, as well as that for "The Lord of the Rings." With Placido Domingo as conductor, the opera will have its world premiere at the Chatelet on July 2, 2008, and will be presented at the Los Angeles Opera on Sept. 7 of that year. The opera's story follows that of the movie, itself a remake of the original 1958 film that was based on a short story by George Langelaan, though the playwright David Henry Hwang has written a new libretto.
Be afraid .... be very afraid ....
