Thumbsucker
Kinsey
The Devil and Daniel Johnston

The Squid and the Whale, Junebug, and Match Point are rock solid films. 3 of the best that I saw in '05.

I've already seen The Squid and the Whale and Match Point and they were great. I thought it was a good haul for $5 ea. I def. checked the DVDs for scuffs before I bought them and to make sure they didn't have any silly Blockbuster stickers...

Yo Rusty. I know you're in my neck of the Northern Va woods. Which one did you go to? I normally frequent Huntsman Square and the one by the Burke Walmart.

I picked up:

City of God (obviously YMMV on this one as someone probably traded it in)
Manderlay (the only one they had)
Match Point
The New World (GREAT MOVIE, imo)

The only others that I can remember that are part of the deal and aren't listed yet are:

Melinda and Melinda
Munich
Prairie Home Companion

Thanks for the heads up -- you got some great titles, including the not-too-well-known "What to do in Case of Fire"! (I hope my branches have as nice a selection for that price. Usually, most "indie" types are the next price bracket which doesn't qualify for the 4 for $20.)

Man - Would have loved to pick up City of God and The New World. Also Melinda and Melinda. I also saw The Brothers Grimm, Grizzly Man, and a bunch of others. I really had to hold off at some point though. I already have Munich and a bunch of the others I saw - Hmm.. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Born In Brothals, Assasination of Richard Nixon, Downfall...

I work there, we usually get a decent number of adds every monday. no new releases of ours have the blue blockbuster stickers on the actual disc. just make sure they are not scratched.
we have about 20 what to do in case of fires always selling for 1.00 all the time.

I work at one in Coppell, TX. We've got these deals going too...

I know we have The Squid and the Whale for $5.99 on it's own.

All of the previously viewed titles $9.99 and under are 4 for $20.

Everything $14.99 and under is at 2 for $20. The $14.99 and under includes semi-recent stuff like Clerks 2, Jackass 2, and Pirates 2. However, this week if you bring in an online envelope from our online service you can get 3 for $20 on the more recent stuff, which is a pretty good deal.

If you guys have anything specific you're looking for just let me know and I can check the price for you to see which category it lands under.

Some people can't handle von Trier, his films are usually intense to the point of emotional brutality. I remember when I first saw "Breaking the Waves," it was like a massive emotional trainwreck that I just wanted to stop and get off of, but at the same time I was unable to turn it off.

I work in a Northern California Blockbuster; I thought the 3 for $20 for online members had no end date yet? I wasn't told one. Is it only for this week? Will have to confirm when I go in later...

I was told by store manager that there was no end date given for the 3/$30 promotion for Total Access users.

They had told us last weekend that it would end this week, but yeah you're both right on the no end date. I checked with my store manager this afternoon.

I went to both Blockbuster (4 for $20) and Hollywood Video (3 for $25) today.

Blockbuster:
A Prairie Home Companion
The Hills Have Eyes
Art School Confidential
Cache

Hollywood Video:
Hard Candy
Edmond
Conversations With Other Women

I was a but upset Manderlay wasn't there, but oh well. And Feast wasn't priced low enough for me to get.

I've got some new info on Blockbuster PVD sales (I work there and do the marketing stuff (aka The Map, ugh)):
Today I opened up the pop box (box with ad signs and such) and found some interesting signs in there. The usual 4 for $20 and 2 for $20, but with the back reading 3 for $20 on $9.99 and 3 for $20 on $14.99 & $12.99 on the back of those. These might be regional with every store just receiving the same material, but it usually doesn't work like that. So we may be seeing the price on $10 movie bundles go up, or the price on $15 & $13 bundles go down. Didn't see any mention of the signs this week, so it may be within the next two weeks that it happens. Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe I missed something.

Also, of note is that the $5.99 movies are now 2 for $10 (maybe limited selection; I just stocked a tower near the checkout with the sign, but I know there are other $5.99 movies on the shelves). So they are more like $5 a piece then.

Hope this helps!
