Bands that are great... But you don't like their music

I was watching the recent Cream reunion video and I found that with the exception of a couple classics, Sunshine of Your Love and Tales of Ulysses, I really couldn't stand most of these guy's songs.

But of course there's no doubt that they're incredibly talented musicians and play amazingly as a trio.

Any other bands that you think are great but you don't like their songs?

Another vote for U2.

Also, I never really got/get all the hype over the Rolling Stones.

U2 is the perfect example...with ya on that.

I think the question deals more like an appreciation for the musicianship itself, but either the genre or style of music just doesn't suit your tastes...if that makes any sense.

U2, Pink Floyd, The Doors... Actually, I'm still not convinced The Doors weren't just a really shitty band.

I think the thread title should be "over-rated" bands. I have good taste in music. just because someone tells me U2 or Aerosmith are the greatest rock band ever, I stop listening......

rolling stones
pink floyd
the doors

although, i dont think any of these bands are great. maybe the rolling stones made better songs, and were better musicians, than the other 2 but thats it. pink floyd in particular, most their songs make me say "what thee fuck is this?!?" and i recognized that they were innovative with studio experimentation....but their songs are terrible.

the doors have a few songs that i like, and their self titled record is pretty good, with of couple great songs, but overall i think their catalog is very mediocre....and thats not even getting into the actual musicianship aspect....

I am a big fan of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain's songwriting, but other than that pretty much every major grunge band. Pearl Jam SEEMED like they were a decent band, and they got a lot of critical praise, and people who's opinions I respected liked them, but I just never got into their music at all.

Bob Dylan
The Grateful Dead

I'm a huge fan of many 60s artists ... but oddly, these 2 do nothing for me. I like Dylan songs done by people besides Dylan. I respect the songwriting talent, live-performance ability, and historical significance. These two just don't do anything for me.

Aerosmith (after 1982...'til then, they RAWKED!)

Oh, and Rush....incredibly talented bunch of guys, but I really hate their music...and I've played guitar, bass, and drums for over 30 years m'self.

I don't get the continuing hype over the Rolling Stones. In their day (even through the 70's), they were huge, but now they're just an overblown, empty shell feeding off their own massive egos. Kinda like KISS.

Rolling Stones is tops on my list, followed by Nirvana, and I know he's not a band, but I just don't get Beck except for the fact he sucks.

Name anyone else who fell into the "grunge" category and I can say I like them or like a handful of songs by them but Pearl Jam never appealed to me.

I can respect someone who is a fan and has followed them for years and years, but I can't enjoy their songs.

The Rolling Stones

and dare I say The Beatles...but it just seems wrong for me to admit this. I bought a few of their compilations and I just don't care for them. But I think I'll try again.

Agree with Dylan, Neil Young and Nirvana.

I like two or three Stones songs but that's about it.

I like two or three Beatles albums but that's about it.

Like others.

U2
The Doors
The Grateful Dead
Santana

Then again (as others have said) I really like the Stones, Beatles, Who and Floyd. Oh well.
