Black Christmas (remake), April 17th, 2007

From Fangoria.com:

Fango got the scoop on the DVD specs for last year’s BLACK CHRISTMAS remake (pictured), coming April 17 from Dimension and Genius Entertainment. The update of Bob Clark’s 1974 cult classic, written and directed by Glen Morgan and starring Katie Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, Lacey Chabert and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, will be available in both the R-rated theatrical cut (fullscreen, running 90 minutes) and an unrated version (widescreen, 95 minutes), the latter presumably containing additional gore footage. The extras are:

• Three alternate endings
• Seven deleted scenes
• What Have You Done?: The Remaking of BLACK CHRISTMAS featurette
• May All Your Christmases Be Black: A Filmmaker’s Journey featurette

Retail price is $29.95; cover art is coming soon

Okay, now a few other sites are reporting an April 3rd release date, but with the same special features listed here. If anyone knows which date is correct, post it here.

Hopefully they'll release an HD-DVD version.

I saw it in theaters and thought it was pretty bad, but I'll probably rent the unrated edition just to see the additional footage and extras.

I caught this movie on the weekend. In short, this movie is a BIG disappointment. The characters are one-dimensional. The attempt to provide Billy's back-story miserably failed. The original movie's John Saxon storyline is sadly discarded. The direction and editing is a disaster. It's really hard to sit through this mess.

The film's only positive is its running time: approximately 1h:15 min

Don't spend a cent to see this movie. You'll be thankful.

I loved how
Spoiler:
the police didn't check the pulses of either killer before putting them into body bags and shipping them to the morgue. Then they both escape and start killing again. Really genius writing right there. And the killers are so hard to kill, and they murder about 8 or 9 people, but the lead girl is able to kill them both in a matter of 60 seconds once they confront her at the hospital

I haven't seen this, is it any good? The trailer made it look kinda stupid with the typical touch chick line at the end.

It definitely sucks. The critics quote on the DVD cover is hilarious. It must have been the only movie John Monaghan saw last year.

I don't know I liked the movie. The original was much better, but this one wasn't too bad. I'll probably pick this up.

I liked it for being a fairly cheesy gory horror movie. I'm going get it.

"one of the best movies of the year"?
they say that about every horror movie.
i don't know if i am going to pick this up, is it anything like the original? i liked the original don't get me wrong, it was a good movie but it wasn't the best horror movie i have ever seen.
i like the cover but people are saying it sucks, which means nothing till i see it myself, i never listen to the critics.
with TCM: the beggining and saw 3 it was easy to pick it up because i knew what i was getting myself into but this one im not sure of?

When not compared to the original, the movie is pretty enjoyable. Although the character depth is as deep as spit, there's alot of satisfying gore...and hot chicks.

Nateman, to answer your question - It is absolutely nothing like the original in tone or suspense (there is none), and the plot is quite a bit different, outside of the "sorority sisters in a house with a psycho" plot that is the same.

I didn't like the movie, but i'm going to check out the unrated version to see the differences and to see if they included some of the alternate death scenes (The UK version has a different ending and a completely different death for one of the characters, and one other actress shot 3 different versions of her death)

I don't get how John would say that, he is such ba better reviewer than to say that about a slop of a flick as this. :headscratch:

Where's his review for the film? Maybe it was (somehow) taken out of context? Although it is a pretty straightforward quote.
