Alfred Hitchcock's 'To Catch A Thief' Special Collector's Edition -- 5/8/2007
anyone know what's been added to this double dip?

I didn't realize the previous version had extras. Paramount usually doesn't double dip unless the previous dvd was barebones. Maybe they've added a commentary from a Hitchcock historian. Needless to say, I don't own the first release, so I'll just wait for this one. Nice list price of $14.99

The price is quite nice and I'll wait until more details emerge, but this will have to be a rather substantial upgrade to what is already a solid release for me to bite.

I hope this better presents the VistaVision image than the old DVD. The color is good, but it could have been made in 16mm from how it looks.
This isn't exactly in the same league as Vertigo, Rear Window, Psycho, and Frenzy, but it's fun. It has Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, and wonderful French Riviera settings (which helped win an Oscar for cinematography).
At least it's a regular collector's edition instead of a "Fireworks Cutaway Edition"

Yeah, and what about that box set that was announced a couple of years ago that was supposed to have Paradine, Young and Innocent, and others? A totally pointless double dip.

I've got a decent Paradine Case. I think it's from the UK, but it plays fine. No extras, no menu, though. I have every Hitch but Juno and Paycock. I'm hoping Lionsgate goes ahead with that one on a future set.

Under Capricorn is the absolute worst Hitchcock film. It's really, really dull.

"Fine" in that it's not unwatchable, but it's one of the many VistaVision Paramount DVDs that just doesn't cut it in terms of image quality. It wouldn't even be "fine" as a normal 35mm film.
In comparision, here's captures from Hitchcock's other VistaVision films:

Hopefully, Paramount and Universal will do quality HD transfers of these VistaVision Hitchcock films.

I can't wait to see how Vertigo looks in HD. The remastered DVD looks fantastic (same thing with The Trouble with Harry), but I bet it pops off the screen in HD.

There is a review of this up in the database.
It's hard to tell if the transfer is the same, but these are the additions I noticed:
2.0 Surround mix
Audio commentary with Peter Bogdanovich and Laurent Bouzereau.
Everything else appears to be there from the current release, maybe not the photo gallery though. Wasn't mentioned that I saw.
