Well, for the first time in years I bought a brand new CD today. My son wanted the new Grammy Nominees 2007 CD so I bought it at Target for 9.99. I thought new release cd's use to be about 14.99/15.99 at most stores, have the prices gone down? Well, I got home opened the cd and loaded the entire cd onto my son's Ipod. Now I have a cd here that my son will probably never play since he has his Ipod, why bother purchasing cd's anymore?

I mainly only buy DVD-As and SACDs. I bought the recent Beatles Love DVD-A. I'll buy a CD if it has a value added bonus I want like a DVD. I will buy the new Shins because they're my favorite band and I like the cover. Plus it's only $8.99.

I buy CDs because computers and the files held on them are not immortal and impregnable, and my mp3 collection could be gone in an instant if something happens to my computer. Then what good is an mp3? To say nothing of sound quality, unless you're ripping at higher bitrate levels.

Amen! Nothing like having the highest quality hard copy backup at the ready. Although CD's aren't totally impervious to damage, I would much rather have the option to re-rip CD at a higher quality bit rate if I needed to, something you can't do with downloaded MP3's.

What's the use of going to CompUSA and buiying a software package. Once you install it, you don't need it anymore?

We all know computers fuck up and it's good to have a backup for re-install.

I still buy CDs all the time. I don't trust the infallibility of my ipod and macbook, or god forbid they get stolen. And I just like the tactile experience of actually holding the disc and case in my hands.

I stopped buying CDs a long time ago. I buy MP3's from iTunes, PeerImpact, Yahoo Music, and Napster. I back up to DVD (about 800 songs at ~192 per DVD). I just added around 3,000 tracks for about $30 at a PeerImpact sale around a month ago. I use Napster and Yahoo to listen to all the music I want and buy what I like (Yahoo was $70 for 2 years and then $70 a year after that and Napster is $10 a month). I get to try out tons of music and save tons of money because I don't blind purchase anymore. I used to get CDs from the library to try out, and having these 2 services saves me the trip and the gas.

Got back into CD's last yr. (kinda took the place of DVD's actually) For about the same price as (legal) downloading I'd rather own a CD, and have a hard copy, the artwork, higher quality, etc.

Since lala.com came around, I haven't bought a disc in a while. When I do buy a disc from a store, it's because it has a dvd, or something else to make it worthwhile.

I love buying CDs. Digital music is okay especially if you only want a song or two from an album. I use the heck out of eMusic, but given the option I will go with CDs. Even most of my eMusic purchases are full albums.

Bascially what I don't want to deal with is DRM. Not to mention the sound quality of CDs is much higher than digital music files.

I buy CDs because I don't like "the man" telling me what format my data should be in and when and where its appropriate to listen to my purchase.

All of my online purchases come from emusic.com where there are no restrictions.

Well, I just thought I would bump this, as the topic came up in another thread... personally I buy CDs for certain bands (like U2) whom I really can't stand to not have the physical disk... but lately I've been buying a LOT of digital music, including full albums. I think the ease and convenience of clicking a button and having the music delivered to me, plus the fact that as soon as I get a new CD I immediately rip it into iTunes and put the CD on the shelf to gather dust, have led me to this thinking path.

I still buy CDs, as a collector i just can't accept the fact that my music is not physical somewhere and only on my computer. I just don't like that. When i look back at my musical life in 10-20 years i don't want to have to browse through my computer, i want to have shelves and shelves of CDs.

And yes i guess it's pretty pointless to buy them now since like most people said i just rip them to iTunes and put them back on the shelf. I wanted the new Foo Fighters a little earlier so i downloaded it and just this week i bought the actual cd.

I collect DVDs and CDs. I just love having the disc artwork and the booklet.

Why do many members here buy more DVDs than we can possible watch? We are slightly OCD and enjoy collecting shiny coasters of any variety.

I seriously think its a much better experience to go out to the record store, buy a CD then open it and look at the art, read linear notes, ect. I just like owning the physical CD, which is my main reason for buying them.
