The January Crap of movies is upon us
Just went to Rotten Tomatoes and saw that 3 movies opening today are at 5% or lower:
Thr3e - 0% (A Christian Serial Killer movie!?!?!?!?)
Happily N'Ever After - 5%
Code Name: The Cleaner - 4%
Freedom Writers is at 58% which makes it a Citizen Kane amongst the new movies this weekend.
Ger ready for some bad films this month...

Letters From Iwo Jima and Children of Men are opening wide this month, so it ain't all that bad.
And Smoking Aces looks pretty cool, if a little over-the-top.

The delay might have to do with the off screen trouble this movie has been getting into...

The good news for my area is that January is when all the Oscar-bait movies are released here, after getting an initial New York/LA release last month. Not to mention Sundance.
The bad news is there's too many movies, too little time.

Code Name: The Cleaner is absolutely horrible. I saw it at a free screening and I feel completely ripped off...
My nomination for one of the worst movies of all time.

the only ones I really want to see this month are freedom writers and ms. potter...other then that I guess I'll be getting a lot of movies from zip.ca and staying in with a beer.

Perfume and Children of Men open wide today.
Pan's Labyrinth will expand as the month goes on.
Alpha Dog will open wide next week and will just be interesting to see if it's as bad as everybody (including the film's original financier/distributor) says it is.
Breaking and Entering, The Invisible, and Smokin' Aces all open wide on the 26th.
To tell you the truth, this January isn't that bad.

"Children of Men", "Little Children", and "Perfume" opened here today, and by the end of the month we'll probably have "Pan's Labryinth" and "Letters from Iwo Jima" playing locally.
And I still have to catch up on some of last year's openings, such as "Dreamgirls".
So I'm not going to have any shortage of movies to go to. At least until February.

Like some, most of the Oscar movies are coming out this month. Children of Men and Little Children both opened today in my town. I still want to see Rocky Balboa and a couple others.

The good thing about January is the wider openings for December's Oscar Bait. I'm looking forward to finally getting to see Pan's Labyrinth, Perfume, Letters From Iwo Jima, Curse of the Golden Flower, The Good German, Notes on a Scandal, and Volver.
As far as January releases go, I'm at least mildly interested in Pathfinder, Arthur and the Invisibles, Primeval, Nomad: The Warrior, and God Grew Tired of Us.

I'm 50/50 on Alpha Dogs. It looks like it could be decent (it kinda reminds me of Bully), but I get that sneaking feeling that its going to be horrible.
I think Smoking Aces will be the big money maker of the month. A lot of stars in it and I feel that it could be as clever and fun as Ocean's 11. But again, its being released in January, so it could very well just suck.
