What happened to all the dating shows?
In college, before DVRs, I would watch TV late at night and there would be Elimidate, Shipmates, Change of Heart, 5th Wheel, Blind Date, Extreme Dating, etc., but I don't see any of those on anymore except for Blind Date. Did they just all disappear? Which shows made it to DVD, by the way? I know Blind Date and 5th Wheel had some.

No way Aphex don't listen to Slider -- me and all of my friends were the same way. Those troubles have trouble staying fresh, but I'm sure we'll get some interesting new ones and there will be another phase sometime.

blind date is one of my favorites, you can still tune into it on spike tv but im not sure of the times.
the local station (A-Channel now CityTV) used to carry it at 2:30am but now its not.
Elimidate is still on some local fox channels on latenight.
i haven't seen Change of Heart & 5th wheel in a while.

I loved these dating shows, but haven't seen them around much. Now I watch those awful MTV dating shows to get my fix. I'm not a big fan of the new show with the lie detector, but Parental Control and Next are cheesy fun.

I liked Change of Heart the most, because it was the most scandalous. The person that they had go on dates with the people who wanted to see if they had a change of heart would always act really slutty in order to make the person have a change of heart. Seeing that and the reaction of the other significant other was always hilarious. Too bad they didn't make a DVD or have any clips on youtube or Google or anything like that.

See I liked Change of Heart but I think it was a bit more contrived than the ones that just featured young people trying to get a piece. Like think about it, if you were in a relationship and going on Change of Heart, wouldn't you have a pretty good idea going in if you were going to have a change or not?

Well, it was pretty popular, and from what I know, it was popular with both guys and girls (moreso than many other shows). It is much more of a fantasy actualized than the other shows.

I miss these shows so much, the only show still on is Blind Date and thats on from noon-1 in the afternoon M-F, I can't wait to get MTV back sometime this year because at least I will have Next and Room Raiders to watch.

Speaking of this genre, I ran across Playboy's version on Playboy TV, called "Foursome". Interesting show, reminded me of Blind Date except there were four people who weren't preset couples (the four of them sort of figured out who would go with whom) and the "date" was to a foreplay specialist. And everybody, including the female host, was nude for most of the show.

I had a friend on change of heart. He said that it seemed like she really liked him, but when she went to the bathroom or had her makeup adjusted, the producers kept saying "you have to be more aggressive" and "you have to say more lurid things" and "try to kiss her". He was like "let me do my thing" and they told basically scolded him for wasting their time. He said it was one of the worst experiences of his life.
