Wii LAN Adapter & Wi-Fi USB Connector HELP

Trying to connect my Wii to the net but I do not have a router or wireless network. Now, I first was told I need a Wii LAN Adapter that is not out yet. That sucks. But today a friend said I could get a Wi-Fi USB Connector. That plugs in to the PC and will make my Wii connect to the net with out a Broadband Router.
The local GameStop has, want they call a Wi-Fi USB connector for $40. I don't want to run out and get this to only find out I can't use it. That I will have to wait for the Lan Adapter.
I know the best is to get a router and go wireless and in time I will (when I get second PC or Notebook but right now, don't have the cash for care for wirless) Was also told Lan is best for online gameing, etc.
Anyone, can any clear this up for me on what I need?
I looked at the booklet and it seems the Lan and USB thing do about the same. They are both listed for people that do not have wireless.
thanks

Not sure, but for $40 you can pick up a wireless router and still hardwire your PC into it, but use the wireless for the Wii...

I have the wifi dongle.

It works very well for me. I have full signal strength and fast downloads from Wii Shop.

I say go with it.

My Netgear wireless router will not work with the Wii. So I went out and bought the WiFi adapter. Installed fine. But...the Wii still won't connect. I get error 52241.

When does this LAN adapter come out? Will that be a wired connection? Not being able to connect to download the old games is getting really, really frustrating.

That's what I bought today. I can't get the Wii to connect using it, however.

My netgear wireless router works great with the Wii...I bought it for $49.99 (on sale from $79.99) plus a $30.00 rebate from Radio Shack at the beginning of December. as well. Mine is the 108Mbps WGT624 v23.

Need to connect the Wii? I originally bought the Nintendo USB adapter but returned it when I decided I would benefit more from a wireless router with an actual antenna.

I purchased this ZyXel when it was $9.99 after rebates.

This E Home may be the next best cheap alternative, $2 after rebates.

I'm posting now using the USB wi-fi. It took MAYBE 5 minutes to hook up. Very simple instructions in the Wii manual. Got mine for $25 on ebay.

Painless and highly recommended.

There aren't any games yet that allow you to play online.

I bought this yesterday installed it painlessly. The Wii recognized it immediately and I was off and running. However, after I was through using the Wi-Fi on my Wii, I closed the program on my PC, and I removed the Wii Wi-Fi dongle.

Then today when I went to play with my Wii again (that sounds funny) I placed the dongle back in my PC and it was NOT recognized (the famous USB triple-ping). When I went to launch the Nintendo program/dongle driver, no icon would show up in the system tray yet I saw it running in the background on my processes list. I right-clicked and ended the program. Removed the dongle and tried to launch the program and still nothing. Did the reboot thing and then a reinstall of the driver and nothing.

I noticed though when the program/driver was unistalled, dongle plugged in, and then I tried a reinstall, I could get my Wii to link to my network. Did a quick web search and read the useless troubleshoot section of the inserted manual with no useful info.

Anyone heard of this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
