Tomb Raider Anniversary
Didn't see this posted here so I thought I'd just mention that Tomb Raider Chronicles has some screenshots, a trailer, and a track from the score of Tomb Raider Anniversary up at their site. According to the forum, it looks like CD took all the complaints regarding TRL to heart, delayed production of TR8, and basically put all their efforts into making this one hell of a TR game. Also, some theorize that this will not only serve as a remake of the first game but will feature certain tweaks to the storyline to serve as a prequel to TRL and a springboard for TR8.
Here's the link to all the goodies: http://www.tombraiderchronicles.com/...ary/index.html
It really looks promising.

Can't wait for this.
The T-Rex charging at Lara was my favorite moment in the first game. Almost gave me a heart attack. Hope they do a remake on the second game cause I thought that was also one of the better sequel.

The original Tomb Raider was the greatest experience I had in gaming.
I was at a local computer shop and saw TR being demo'd on a computer. I was floored. It looked incredible and I wound up buying it right then and there.
While playing the first level I heard about a 3D card (3Dfx Voodoo) that was new and that a TR Glide patch was just released for it. The screenshots looked incredible, so I ordered the card and waited patiently for it as I didn't want to continue playing TR without it.
The experience of TR in 3D was simply amazing. I loved adventure games and this was a mix of action and puzzle solving. The sense of discovery through these massive environments made me never want the game to end. At a time where FPS had become the popular genre (and me not being a fan) TR was a breath of fresh air.

BTW, Springtime? Awesome. Unfortunately at the end of the credits where it shows the company logos it shows the Playstation and PC logos but no 360 or Wii. I was pretty sure there was a TR in the works for Wii and this "revisionist" title reeks of shovelware for the system.
Although, the 360 would be my system of choice over the Wii for this game.

"Eidos Interactive Ltd., one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, today confirms that the next Tomb Raider game will be entitled; Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary and is set for release on PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PC in 2007."
I only knew of this coming out for PSP originally so I'm surprised to see even PS2 listed.

I've seen some screencaps in either EGM or OPM - I loved TRL and the marriage of that engine with TR1 sounds great (I could never get into the original, due to the wonky grid system of movement). I'd prefer it on XBOX to PS2, due to the controller/graphics - maybe this would get ported at some point?

It's right up there for me as well, second only to GTA III in my gaming experiences.

Although I currently only own a PS2, I too hope they eventually make a version for the 360 (as I'm planning to buy one in the near future). Besides, it makes no sense to release Tomb Raider Anniversary on the PS2 and PC only when Tomb Raider Legend was also on the 360. Perhaps they want to optimize the game for 360 rather than just make a port?

Apparently they're not simply taking the same game and updated a few things here and there. It seems they want this to be a totally new game based on the original.

Before showing off the game, reps from the developer talked about the approach the team is taking with the game. Rather than simply redo the original game with Legend's visuals, the team is taking a more thorough approach to the new game. Citing the method Peter Jackson took for realizing his vision of King Kong--using the original narrative as a framework and retaining the key memorable moments while expanding on them--reps from Crystal Dynamic noted that Anniversary Edition will be much more than a simple update of the original game.

It's only 20 bucks at Best buy this week, right? I'm interested to see if it's worth the money...

Played around with it a bit. Definitely been digging it. The controls are very responsive. I played the original TR way back when, but I can barely remember any of it now, so I don't know how faithful it is to the original.
Meanwhile, according to Gamespot, Eidos has had five Tomb Raider Anniversary titles rated by the ESRB for inclusion on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The five titles happen to correspond to the five major levels in Anniversary. So we may get TR Anniversary as downloadable content in installments. I'd imagine the total for all 5 will come out to more than the price of the PS2 version, plus they'd be stuck on the HDD, so I'm just hanging on to the PS2 version and upscaling it on my PS3.

Current rumor (not sure how credible) is that this will be available on the 360 as downloadable content for TR Legends, and that they might release a special edition of TRL later with the Anniversary content.

Oh man, the new engine worked wonders with this game. Controls are so much better than they were a decade ago.

GameTap version keeps crashing my PC so I'm out. I did manage to get past the beginning little part where it teaches you to jump, but the game crashed right after the first check point. I ran FEAR and Oblivion fine on my PC, but a freaking PS2 game crashes it. Awesome.

It is by no means a PS2 game, just sayin.

That line makes it sound like a port, it's not. It's using the PC version of the Legends engine which wasn't ported.
