Best kid's show scientist?

Who, in your opinion, was the best kid's TV scientist?

My gf likes Bill Nye, but I prefer Mr. Wizard. I couldn't think of any past the initial three.

I barely remember Mr. Wizard, but my kids really love Bil Nye.

Another vote for Mr. Wizard...I still do the salt shaker balance trick that I learned on his show when I was a kid.

I voted for the Wiz. Also, I seem to remember Bill Nye horning in on Beakman's racket.

Beakman and Nye came out around the same time. Nye still has some shows (I saw him randomly on Discovery HD) and Beakman... well, he's got some syndicated Science Facts for Kids thing on the Sunday comics. "Did you know? Fleas have 7 eyebrows!" That type of thing.

I always thought Beakman was some cross between the MST3K schtick and Matthew Lesko, from what I can remember.

I always liked the music videos they had at the end of Bill Nye's show. They even did a parody of a Morrissey song one time, which I thought was odd to see on a kid's PBS show.

I'm old enough to remember Mr. Wizard, but I have to say Beakman always made me laugh, even though I was in my 20s when it was on. I'm not too familiar with Bill Nye's show.

Mr. Wizard all the way!

"Hey Mr. Wizard, what are you doing?"
"Well Billy, I was about to set off a controlled chemical explosion in my kitchen. Wanna help?"

It's the Beakman Challenge!

Bill Nye had the big Disney backing.... Beakman did more with less. Heck, he had a dude in a rat suit with a bad plastic rat nose -- points!

both Mr. Wizard (Don Herbert - I can't believe I remember his name!) and Bill Nye were both great at what they did. I'd often try to make science "come alive" for kids. I'd usually just end up with a restraining order.

Couldn't put it better.

Mr. Wizard is Johnny Carson
Nye and Beakman are Letterman and Leno (respectively).

You guys are forgetting to mention 3-2-1 Contact...I can't even believe I remember that show. Not really one person but they had a lot of science stuff on it.

I liked Beakman and can't think of Bill Nye as anything other than SpeedWalker.

Mr. Wizard is the best.

I know how to find leaks in bicycle tires because of that show (fill the sink with water and feed the tire into it until you see bubbles. Rubbing dish soap all over the tire works too.)

Not something I knew as a kid anyway.

I teach fourth grade science, and we use Bill Nye videos to enhance our curriculum. Great show.

Beakman was goofier, Nye was funnier, but Mr Wizard was the original. It's one thing to make science fun when you have a six foot tall talking rat, but to do it when you're basically a teacher/prof/grandpa type person is much more impressive.

NOW YOU KNOW!
