Does Universal offer a replacement program for their screw ups?

I was just enjoying my Hammer Horror DVD and sure enough it fucks up on the second movie. It gets pixilated and freezes my player. My mom told me she is having the same problem with one of her Abbot & Costello DVDs; My Casino bonus DVD has the same thing. I am tired of this piece of shit studio and crappy products. Does anyone know if theyve tried to remedy this problem at all??

While Im here, are they still doing their double sided crap? Im weary of getting Quantum Leap S4and5 becuase of this.

sadly no.
universal in my opinion makes the cheapest crappiest dvds out there, they love those shitty double sided discs and they don't work properly half the time.
i bought kolchak: the night stalker and the 3rd episode at the 50:00 min mark just f#&ks right up.
i had the same problem with the monster legacy gift set and the kojak-1 dvd.
i didn't have a problem with any of the las vegas sets yet through they were smart enough to but the 3rd season on single sided duel-layer.
if i were you whenever you get a universal title you'll have to watch the thing within 30 days to see if it works and if it doesn't get an exchange or your money back.
universal has some titles that i really like and i always hate when they put it on those cheap -18 discs.
what happens is that the laser doesn't read it properly or something not sure quite the reason why they don't work but universal really f$*ks things up when it comes to there dvds.
they have along way to go before they get alot of there customers back!

Actually, I think there is a replacement program. I remember reading a thread of Universal DVDs that were replaced by the studio after they stop playing. I know some of them were DVD rot problems, but I believe that there were some freezing issues also.

Yes, actually Universal does replace things. If you email them they will give you an address for you to send your disc and they'll send one back.

Just for you :

Anyone had luck returning defective dvds to the manufacturers for replacement copies?

I was thinking of opening a similar thread, but about Anchor Bay, since my copy of FM went dead and the damn DVD is OOP. does anybody has any suggestion for this other problem?

Heres the Anchor Bay dvd problem reporting at the bottom of the page. I guess it couldnt hurt to ask even though it is OOP.

All I found on Universals website is this:

http://homevideo.universalstudios.co...agreement.html

It states: "Universal Studios Home Entertainment Consumer Damaged DVD Replacement Program"

Is this the route I have to go? I have to agree that I damaged my DVD and its not their fault? This is bull! For it to be like this Im afraid its a case dependency and if they see that I damaged my stuff or something they have the right to refuse to replace it! Come on!

Unfortunately even getting discs replaced is no guarantee. They swapped out my Columbo Season 3 twice and each time I had an error somewhere during a few episodes.
The problem is the higher error rate on DVD-18s. The only solution I found was to get a DVD player that could deal with the problems and play the defective discs. The Denon's for instance seem to be excellent at handling these problem DVD-18s.

Yeah they will replace them but trouble is there's a good chance that the replacement will be dodgy as well, due to the very high error rates on these discs.

They really should do something for House Season 1. Releasing it non-anamorphically? Idiots...

So should I go the "Universal Studios Home Entertainment Consumer Damaged DVD Replacement Program" route or does someone here know of a better way?
