Aiken vs. Ripa on Live!
HOLLYWOOD - American Idol finalist Clay Aiken angered Kelly Ripa while co-hosting Live with Regis and Kelly on Friday when he covered her mouth with his hands to stop her from speaking.
Problems began after a video clip was shown of Ripa impersonating Aiken on Halloween several years ago.
According to entertainment news Web site TMZ.com, Ripa claims Aiken became hostile towards her and insists he wasn't "respectful in any way."
Tensions remained high throughout the taping of the show, culminating with Aiken putting his hands over her mouth to try and keep her from talking while interviewing Dancing with the Stars winners Cheryl Burke and Emmitt Smith.
Ripa slammed Aiken at the time, saying, "Oh, that's a no-no.... I don't know where your hands have been!"
Ripa's co-host Regis Philbin was shocked by the controversy, adding, "In my wildest dreams would I ever think that one day you would have a feud with Clay Aiken!"

Kelly addressing it on Monday:

Rosie also brought it up on The View this morning... Kelly called in. I don't think that's been Youtubed yet... Stay tuned.

I have to disagree with Rosie, I don't think that Kelly's response was motivated by his rumoured sexuality. It was a comment that she could have said to anyone who put their hand over her mouth. I think that Rosie is hypersensitive when it comes to dealing with homophobia, and sometimes sees it where it doesn't exist. Then after Kelly hung up, Rosie got snotty saying that she felt that she had been scolded.

I think it was more about the fact that she's pissed that some nobody co-host put his hand over her mouth. It's fairly rude to do as a guest host with someone that you don't know. I'm totally on her side.

I remember one time someone put their hand over my mouth when I was a kid...The I promptly bit the hell out of their hand. That's what she should have done.

It came off as a "Oh no, you didn't!!!" by Ripa, but Clay was so taken aback that he sort of try to play it off to diffuse the situation. Perhaps it's not a big deal in Clay's circle of friends, but Ripa definitely felt like it was a personal space encroachment that needed to be slapped down before Clay felt too at home with her for any more of that sort of thing.

I didn't see the show but if Aiken became hostile after seeing the clip of her imitating him for Halloween then I doubt his covering her mouth was meant to be friendly. In that context I can understand why she was so uncomfortable.

Funny shit I've seen all week.
I was hoping someone would take charge and finally put that bitch in her place.
Never thought it would be Clay Aiken.

The funny thing is with Rosie running to Clay's rescue and calling Kelly a homphobe, she essentially just outed Clay. Oops.
She said on the View "If he was straight."
