Should I replace my 360?
As I posted in the COD thread my controller seems to be acting strange, the red button was not working in one part of the game. I switched it with my other controller and it worked fine.
I have a gamestop warranty on my 360 so I figure before it runs out (11/22) I should replace the controller. I called them and they said they would have to replace my whole 360 for this (they cant separate the controller from the rest)
Now im torn: I have a launch day 360 that has been PERFECT with never any problems AND Microsoft said they would replace any defective launch day systems for free. Should I just get a new system (and of course that means buying a new warranty) or should I just hang tight with my system as it is and get it replaced whenever it may go bad--Im pretty sure the MS offer stands for as long as I have this machine.

Seems like a lot of work just to get a fixed controller. I would probably just bite the bullet and pick up a new controller. Take it from someone who has already gone through one bad consol and one bad hard drive, if your system is working...leave it alone!

Buy a new controller and the replacement plan on said controller. Then take back your busted controller using the replacement plan. They cannot tell the difference between controllers, so they'll have no way of knowing it isn't the same one. You'll end up with a brand new extra controller, but it'll save you the hassle of replacing your entire system.

then yea, keep the hard drive, and swap everything else.
I did with my system, and i was a loyal customer since. I never pre-order games, but after helping me out, i've pre-ordered about 10

Of course it will break eventually but right now its covered for life by MS (since its a launch unit) and if I get it swapped with a new one now, it will only be covered under a new standard MS warranty.

I've been holding of on calling on my system as I don't want to be without.
But I've had some problems lately where my drive will attempt to open itself.
If I'm in the dashboard, the status of the drive indicates opening and the green ring flashes like when it is opening.
I have to go and open it manually and it will start to open, but then close itself and continue reading the disc. It has tried to open on me a few times when playing a game as well.

Oh comeon... We all know you're making that up about the controller. Just the other night you were saying you were going to hook up your 360 to your car and pull it around the street just so you could get a new one before your warranty was up..
I'm on to you.. Ummmmm Hmmmmmmm

LMAO Tbird I thought the exact same thing. Exodus you're a shady bastard
Honestly though if it ain't broke why fix it. When you have problems with the machine MS will replace it.

yea I thought about breaking it on purpose BEFORE MS said they'd fix launch units for free, but now its starting to feel sentimental: I want to break it with genuine USE.

have you called about your controller to the 1800 xbox line? when I thought I had a bad HD cable they sent me a new one lickety split for free. Maybe they do the same since it's a launch console. Doesn't hurt to try.

It happend today! I got ONE red light in the lower right and my screen said "Error 74" I looked it up and it said that its a connection problem with the video connection (cable?) everything looked/felt secure and I rebooted. Now Im having problems with COD3, I couldnt join a game (singleplayer seemed fine). Could it be related? Oh well. I guess Im going to replace it and just not worry about it.

I called 800 4 my xbox and should get my shipping box in a day or two to mail mine in for repair. Glad I paid for the extra warranty now.

I havent had a problem since--and no bad picture, just black and then the screen that said I had the E 74 error in 5 different languages. It might be just a connection prob (but why would it suddenly happen?) or bad cable, again why would it suddently 'break'. Im going to trade it in for a brand new one. And start fresh with a MS 2 year warranty.

I was thinking about getting one of these, but then read numerous reviews on amazon and other sites about the unreliability of the system. Is it really as bad as people say?

I just hope we can extend the warranty after two years. I'm guessing the price of the console will still be over $200 and would much rather pay another $50 for another two years protection.
