Masters of Horror - "Family" - 11/3/06
Wow, a good one! If you crossed this series off your watch list, I recommend catching this on one of the replays this week. Creepy and funny (in a sick way).

I thought this was a solid episode. I saw the ending coming, but it was still done well. Not the comedy-fest that last season's "Deer Woman" was. And Wendt is surprising effective as a psycho (or maybe not so surprising if you saw him in "King of the Ants"). My biggest quibble is something that many of these MoH eps seem to struggle with ... properly filling the hour running time. They almost always feel like a stretched 30-minute ep or a feaure-length movie hurt by having too much cut out. This is the former ... would've been a perfect 30-minute "Tales from the Crypt" ep, but many scenes just play out too long here. Still, overall it was good.
Next week looks positively dreadful though. Pretty-boy "cool" vampires, MTV-editing, directed by the "master" who brought us "Bones" (the crappy Snoop Dog horror vehicle, not the current tv show), and written by hackmeister Mick Garris himself. Ugh ... it's 6 days away and I can already sense the stench of this starting to waft out from my tv.

Again, another step-up from a returning director. Probably the most twisted episode yet.
I knew something was missing.
