Superman 2 (Donner cut) getting limited re-release?
So does anyone know if this will get any sort of limited re-release next month? I'd MUCH rather see it on the big screen for the first time (although HD DVD will be a close 2nd). Maybe NY and LA?

Have there been any reviews of the new SUPERMAN II?
You would think there'd be more publicity for this, but Warner's is being awfully low-key about it.
Where are the previews/reviews?

Awesome link digital! Thanks. Great clip! Wonder how much of the new cut is going to have completely new footage which was never seen.
I can't wait to see the new cut and I really wish it would play in the theater. Superman II was the only movie my dad let our family sit right thru one showing and into the next (without paying a new admission!).

its going to be a new movie..its completely different. the tone will be more like the first movie. it will feel like part 2 of superman the movie like two towers and underworld 2. taking place right after the first movie.

This is looking pretty frickin cool, cause I always hated that you could see Margot Kidder at two different weights from the Donner & Lester footage, as in the Lester footage she is much too skinny in her face.
Does anyone know if I can buy Superman II: Donner Cut individually without buying the boxset?

It can't be completely different as it was only 75% shot, so there will be a lot of scenes still done by Lester.

Digitalfreaknyc, thanks for sharing that clip. It was really great to see that.
Makes me wonder if there's enough unused footage from Superman II where Warner Bros. could get really creative with it and make a new Superman movie. Kind of like what Blake Edwards tried in "Trail of the Pink Panther." Only better, of course.
I am eagerly anticipating seeing this movie, but I have some reservations. I'm sure it's not going to live up to the hype I've built up inside my head over all these years.
Take for instance that five-minute clip. I hate to admit it, but I think the Richard Lester version was better. I'm more willing to believe Lois jumped into icy Niagra waters than freaking jumped out of a window in the Daily Planet! Donner's version plays more like a deleted scene from the DVD.
And I think my favorite moment where Superman kneels before Zod, then crushes his hand was exclusive to the Lester version. I love that scene and will be disappointed if it's not there anymore. The reason I believe that is not in the Donner version is because of a deleted scene I once saw where the three Krypton criminals are shown alive and well, under arrest and getting led out of the Fortress of Solitude by law enforcement. (The North Pole Police? )
However, I must say those five minutes reminded me why Superman I and II cannot be touched in terms of greatness. Christoper Reeve was so natural. And there was more chemistry between Lois and Clark in just those five minutes than we saw during the entire running time of Superman Returns.

Actually, i preferred what I saw in those 5 minutes to most of what is currently in Superman 2. There is such a natural chemistry with all the characters and the dialogue is just on the spot. Lester threw too much cheese into it. And comparing the two, it's almost like you could see the tension on screen that was generated by all the changes. Too bad, really. But very happy we're finally getting to see this new movie.
To answer your question, since a majority of this footage will be new, i would consider it a "new" movie. That's why I'm hoping I get to see it for the first time on the big screen and not at home.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be a new movie. I guess I didn't word that very well. I mean it would be interesting if Warner Bros. could actually make a Superman V (or would it now be VI?) using footage of Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder, but structure it so it has a different plot than the one used in Superman II. Actually make it an offical continuation of the series.
But I'm definitely glad it's been done like this. I never thought I would see this day!

I LOVE Superman II, but I am really interested in seeing this. In all honesty, I do not like the original Superman that much and still think that II is right at the top of the Super Hero genre. I seem to be in the minority though which is surprising. Then again I do not get "endless sunshine" either at all and so many think it is the greatest thing ever.
