It's not a different question, that existing threat answers that question within.

Creating a self-titled song happens to be one way for a band to "namecheck" itself and that's covered in the other thread.

It's only different in the wording of the question, but you're wanting to know the same damn thing, so you can park the sarcasm.

The difference is the old one only asks who mentions themselves in a song. This one asks which artists titled a song after themselves. They are different questions.

Thank you. I'm not sure how much more obvious this could be.

I wasn't aware this had turned into a poll...and now we've deviated away from the subject of the thread unnecessarily, when all I was doing to begin with was pointing out that you asked the same question as in a previous thread. I added no comments or sarcasm, I only linked to the other thread. Anything beyond that was, again, unnecessary.

How can you not see the difference between writing a song with the exact same name as your band, and just mentioning your band's name in any random song?

That is not the same thing. I'm sorry that your attempt to point out a dupicate thread failed, but just give it up.

Mott the Hoople (The Ballad of Mott the Hoople)
Bo Diddley (not a band but he has about 10 songs with Bo Diddley in the title so deserves mention)

Actually, it is the same thing, it's just that your thread is a more specific version of something that's already covered in the all-encompassing namecheck thread.

I didn't ask anything. What are you talking about?

You weren't the one who supplied the sarcasm, so that wasn't directed at you. I just used your post to reiterate they're the same question, and that this debate has become tiresome.

I agree.

Self-titled songs comprise a sub-set of songs including a name-check.

That said, if everyone can swallow their egos and lose the attitude then this near duplicate thread will stay open by way of a "part two".

My ego is so big I can't swallow.

Seems a bit odd that the other thread was closed for being similar to a new thread. I see you calling this a "part two" but wouldn't it make sense to either merge or at the least point out why the other thread was closed in that thread?

I can't see why they don't both exist. The threads are NOT asking the same thing. I don't give two shits about bands that write any random song with their band name in it. I was actually really interested to know of other bands who wrote a song that was named after the band. That other thread doesn't help me.

Damn Yankees

How about songs that mention bands/artists other than the artist doing the song. Ex: Wings' "Rockshow" mentions Jimmy Page.
