TV Shows whose Episode Length needs to be Shortened or Lengthened

I think the majority of Entourage fans agree that the episodes are too short and can be lengthened.

Ugly Betty is not a bad show but boy it drags, it could be a half hour show.

I think it's more fun to talk about episode orders smaller or bigger, but I'll play. I wonder if Nip/Tuck wouldn't be better off as a half hour show. It's so over the top that it might work better in smaller doses.

I think Studio 60 would be better if a bit shorter, although I think the 22 minutes standard '30 minute' length would probably be too short. Too bad there's not a middle '45 minute' slot.

Was just about to suggest that. Too bad we can't follow the Brits' lead and give a show 45 minutes (or 75 minutes or whatever) if that show works best at 45 minutes.

I know, I know: starting a new show while the other network is already 15 minutes in to their show; straightening out and analyzing the ratings; Americans' inability to adjust to a weekly show that isn't in 30 minute increments; yada......

Studio 60 probably would be better 30 minutes, so would Ugly Betty. I'd like to see CSI:Miami trimmed down to 20 seconds...

Bear in mind that, because of commericials, a 45 minute BBC show = a 1 hour show on commericial television.

Trim Studio 60.
Give a full hour to Weeds.
Give 2 hours to Battlestar Galactica.

Take the first two minutes and last 30 seconds of Jericho - fill the rest with cartoons.

Back in the late 70s ABC had two 45 minutes series produced by aaron spelling, but having a series start at 8:45 or ending at the same time was too confusing for people and nobody watched it when the series went from 30 to 45 minutes...

i think the 44 minute timeframe Battlestar Galactica hurts they show, thats the one show I watch that I think would be PERFECT on something like HBO where, sure, some shows will come in at 45 minutes, but when they need to go a full 60 its no problem.

I feel the Entourage episodes where short this season cause they had problems writing out a hole 20 episode arc, and basically stretched a 14 episode arc out into 20, thereby making each individual episode pretty short.

reminds me of how TBS used to be...It always screwed up my Saved by the Bell recordings. It would cut into the episode on WGN!! EVERY TIME!

when did TBS stop doing that, by the way? and why?

They way it drags, I would have guessed it's already a 2 hour show.

Scrubs would be great at an hour. I loved last season when they played two eps. back to back each week.

And while I'm on the topic of medical shows, ER could be trimmed by a few minutes.

How can you say that? That show goes by WAY too quick.

I'm sorry, I tried to like it, I really did, but I just find the whole thing way too damn tedious for me. Perhaps it's my ADD but I think....look a nickel!

I think the :05/:35 scheduling went when they went to TBS from WTBS. That was when they moved from superstation to cable network, too. I think they made that move for two basic reasons: a desire to air something different with WTBS in the Atlanta market and perhaps some FCC rules that prevented them from collecting the maximum amount of money for their channel.

I like Heroes a lot, but some of it does go by rather slow.

NBC needs to stop with their stupid 8:59p-10:01p scheduling...

But that's not really trimming shows, is it? Or maybe it is...

Smallville should be reduced from 24 hour seasons to 2: premeire and finale. Everything else is just filler. So I guess I'm saying they should be 5-minute episode

Seriously, Smallville is too long for what one gets out of it.
