Mysterious Skin (there's 2 versions)

iam toally surprised that it seems that not so many ppl noticed this.apprently, there's 2 versions of Mysterious Skin out on R1.

this one which TLA released first and which everyone knows about. and it's out of print.

and this one which Strand released later on and not so many ppl know about.

i own the UK edition from Tartan which is according to dvdcompare is the best release so far but looking at the spec of the R1 Deluxe edition and it looks like there are some cool features in there, like deleted scenes and audition tapes of the lead actors never before available: Joseph Gordon Levitt and Brady Corbet
designed by director Gregg Araki
creation of packaging and DVD menus supervised by Gregg Araki
Commentary track with Gregg Araki, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and Brady Corbet

which are not available on first R1 release and not even in the UK one.

now my question, does anyone have this release? is it worsth it to double dip?

I was only aware of R rated and Unrated releases. So this is news to me.

I'll consider upgrading since those features sound great, but only if all the features from the original are still on there, and that includes the phenomenal DTS track.

I´ve had this on my wishlist ever since it came out on DVD, but waited to get the best DVD release. So which one is the best release overall?

R0UK - Tartan
R1 - Original Theatrical Director's Cut (TLA)
R1 - Deluxe Unrated Director's Edition

PS.
I take the new R1 release (Strand) is better than the old OOP TLA release?

The Tartan/TLA R1 disc is a PAL-to-NTSC port. As a viewing experience, it's shit. If the Strand disc is true NTSC, with the addition of the audition material and deleted scenes(and the inclusion of the DTS track, according to the Strand website) that makes the Strand release the clear winner.

EDIT:The Tartan disc wasn't a PAL conversion; it just wasn't flagged for progressive scan. My mistake. Also, I found that the reason the Tartan disc went OOP was a lawsuit brought by the film's producers against Tartan/TLA - details here.

Yes, thank you for posting that link ... I had no idea what had transpired behind the scenes — having reviewed that Tartan disc last year, I assumed that was the end of it. Now I'd be interested to compare/contrast the two releases ...

I have both discs. It appears to be the exact same transfer.
