Trailer in HD from Apple.com

<hr>

I saw this in an early screening last weekend and was neither surprised nor disappointed. The trailer, I thought, was fantastic. I saw it earlier that day, saw that there was an early screening, and went. Unfortunately, every key point and most funny scenes are in the trailer. They're sandwiched between scenes which are neither hilarious nor boring: Billy Bob rehashes his anti-social persona, Jon Heder plays the clueless dullard, and the supporting characters all fill their roles acceptably. Todd Phillips's story is not as sharp as it was in Old School and reminds me a bit of Road Trip without the high or low points.

I can't think of any word that better describes this movie than "serviceable" --- nothing about sticks out, nothing drives you away. Definitely not compelling enough to have me recommend anyone see it in theatres, but I can see this becoming a minor hit on home video or cable. A comedy that's bland enough to take your parents to but still funny enough to keep your attention.

Watching the trailer, I thought this movie would be "mediocre." It sounds about right. I'll probably wait for DVD to see it.

I don't think I'll ever see it.

I have to admit, the trailer didn't really excite me. I think I liked the idea and the talent involved more than anything.

Awesome. Todd Phillips is slowly working his way to becoming a fucking hack if he continues making crappy PG-13 comedies.

This film squanders a half-decent premise (loser looking for help with self-confidence) and turns into a not-too-funny game of oneupsmanship that feels neither plausible or convincing. It feels like a film with no re-writes at all, they just filmed the first draft and consequently it falls flat for most of its running time.

I give it 1.75 stars or a grade of C-.

i caught the early $5 showing today and thought it was okay. nothing amazing, but it kept me watching and some parts made me laugh out loud. i wouldn't anything more than the matinee price to see it though.

I refuse to see anything that features someone who worked on Napoleon Dynamite (which is why I won't watch Nacho Libre).

I guess you'll be missing out on "Crank" too.

I haven't even heard of Crank.

Edit: Oh dear god, yes I have heard of Crank. It wasn't going to see that one, anyway. Didn't know it had someone from ND in it, though.

Another movie I was never planning on seeing. Wow, looks like my ban on ND people is working in my favor!
