Thanks. I'll be ordering all three tonight. Did anyone else who saw "The Fallen Idol" during the recent theatrical revival find the sound quality abysmal?

I believe all Criterion preorders are priced this way and have been for some time.

No, only the November pre-orders are 40% off. The October pre-orders are the standard 35% off and the December titles are not yet available for pre-order.

Excellent! I hadn't bothered to check if these were up yet, so thanks to the OP. Preordered Pandora's Box, Fallen Idol, and added the two November Godzilla titles as well to qualify for the $5-off coupon.

I did. The dialogue was pretty hard to hear but I was pleased overall just to be able to see this. I may need to upgrade my Criterion LD depending on the extras on this.

It's worth noting that the British film industry's sound recording technology generally lagged behind that of Hollywood's, particularly in the 30s and 40s. So although the "abysmal" quality of FALLEN IDOL's audio may be due to something else, it wouldn't surprise me if it was weak and tinny in the same way that the sound for DEAD OF NIGHT, MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT, KID FOR TWO FARTHINGS, LADY VANISHES, etc. tends to be.
