DVD Talk review of 'Hard Candy'

Good review, Francis! One thing I was wondering: you don't mention the aspect ratio, and although the screens in the review don't appear to indicate it, has this been cropped to a 1.78:1 ratio like many of Lions Gate's recent titles or left in the original 2.35:1?

I don't have the disc with me right now, but I leave in the black bars on my screen captures, so that the aspect ratio is obvious. I do believe this was 2.35:1, but I will confirm tonight.

What other titles have been cropped? I thought it was just Lord of War and that it was a mistake.

Since they released a statement when LoW was released stating they modified it due to wishes of the production company, yet never offered any source of such, nor any comment when they then re-released it using the original intended composition, it likely wasn't a mistake.

Additional modified titles that I'm aware of (Intended Aspect Ratio being 2.35:1 modified to 1.78:1)..

Creep
Nun, The (Monja, La)
Snow Walker, The (Released in the US via First Look but using the transfer created and released in Canada by Lionsgate)
Stage Beauty
Widow of Saint-Pierre, The

The Widow of Saint-Pierre is showing in its intended aspect ratio this month on IFC.
