Run Lola Run should be a good bet.

It's easy to understand, great action and some interesting twists.
If it's not available in your area, maybe you should list a few films available and we could help you pick one.

Here are some common ones. Though not all are probably suitable for paper writing,
they're all interesting (imo).

Trainspotting
Downfall
Cinema Paradiso
Whale Rider
Shaun Of The Dead
Time Bandits
28 Days Later
Night Watch
Hero
House Of Flying Daggers
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Ikiru
Old Boy

If it is for class I'll recommend a Marcel Pagnol story

For instance Jean de Florette (1986) and the secnd part Manon des Sources

I believe these are in English, though one would need subtitles to understand Spud in Trainspotting.

Just because a movie is in English doesn't mean it's not foreign. Those movies are from England, and since I'm assuming he's in the US, that would make them foreign.

Anyway, Brotherhood of the Wolf is one hell of an awesome movie, with martial arts AND monsters.

Also, anything from Takeshi Kitano is pretty much unbeatable. I recommend Zatoichi, Sonatine, and Hana-bi.

That's true, but I assume that for the purposes of this assignment, the teacher wants something that is not in English.

Buy Gojira (1954) from your local Walmart it features the original Japanese Godzilla film with English subtitles along with two commentary tracks. Keep your receipt and return the DVD to Walmart to get your money back when you're done with the assignment. Here's a wiki on the film.

Good Foreign Films

Make it fun, try any Pedro Almodovar film, Tie me up, tie me down, Matador, Kika or Dark Habits. Try also Delicatessen or The City of Lost Children. Tu Mama Tambien and Amores Perros are also good ones and Jamon, Jamon and Like Water for Chocolate are great films as well. You'll enjoy writing about any of those, good luck!
