The Venture Brothers -- "Guess Who's Coming to State Dinner" -- 9/10/06

The Venture Brothers: "Guess Who's Coming to State Dinner"
Spoiler:
When the Gargantua-1 Space Station breaks orbit and crashes into a wanted terrorist, Colonel Bud Manstrong becomes a national hero. But did it really happen or is Bud's mother, the indomitable Mrs. Manstrong, behind an insidious plot to assassinate the President? The mysterious blinking band aid on Bud's head might be the key to a mystery only the ghost of Abraham Lincoln and Team Venture can solve.

Airs Sunday, Sept. 10, at 10:30 p.m. EST on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, or you can watch it now via streaming video on Adult Swim Fix.

Can't believe no one ever comments on what is one of the funniest shows around. I really hope it gets a third season. "Someone's playing with their Lincoln Logs!"

This was one of the series' stranger episodes. I don't know quite what to make of it, so I'll probably give it a second viewing.

Basically it's a parody of "Manchurian Candidate." But there was too much Bud Manstrong, which isn't a particularly interesting character, and too little of the core Venture group for my taste.

And what happened to Anna after Gargantua-1 crashed?

The whole Lincoln ghost thing was just weird.

This has been an overall great season, but this episode gets major thumbs down from me. Just wasn't an interesting story and the lack of any Monarch tends to make a bad one worse.

If you freeze-frame the newspaper, it says that she was killed and given a closed-casket funeral.

Not a bad episode, but kind of hit-and-miss. Too many gags that were just there, that didn't lead to anything - like the crazy general babbling about his son or Brock's confrontations with Hauser that went nowhere. Too much shock value stuff; blowjobs, handjob, fingerbang, incest. Gets old quickly. Also, parodying two administrations at once never works. It just makes it seem like you're trying to cover all the bases. Some good bizarre shit, though. Lincoln being plastered with $5 bills was inspired, as well as Manstrong rubbing one out and quoting Dave Bowman. Post-it notes on a force field - comedy genius. And Jarboe as the White House maid was the freakiest thing I've heard in a long time.

This was one of those where they just crammed too much into it.

Did I hear Manstrong's mother correctly when she said something along the lines of, "..when I held your pee-pee to help make your sisters." ?

Jeez.

Am I the only one who thinks that the music and sound effect are mixed in far too loud, and that they drown out a lot of the dialog?

I heard it as "help you make sissy", which is a juvenile/motherly term for urinating.

You are right, it was 'sissy'.

But I have never heard that as another word for 'peeing', so I got 'sister' out of it.
