Joystiq promises big news - tonight.

I wonder what it could be...

We just got handed a scoop for some important news with one of the next-generation consoles. We can't talk about any specifics yet, but you have our word that this announcement is something worth waiting for.

Expect all the info tonight here at Joystiq at 12:01 a.m. Eastern.

I'm guessing it's the official pricing and release date for the Wii.

I reckon I can be bothered to stay up until 11:01 Central for this news, no matter the outcome. Although it may bring on a severe case of insomnia if it is Wii news.

Mother bitch. Why did I read this?! WHY?! I'll probably have to drink a few beers to ensure I get to sleep tonight at a reasonable hour.. if I wait for this and it's something good, the excitement will just keep me up further.

So, what's it going to be?

Wii price and/or release?
PS3 cancelled/delayed?
360 HD-DVD details?
FFXIII not a PS3 exclusive?

Maybe a next generation 360 w/ built-in HD DVD?

Sounds like complete bullshit. Sites always pull this crap. "Expect a big announcement!"

Kotaku had something like this about Sony and never even followed up on it. It's sad when news about possible news is news.

The difference is that Joystiq is pretty decent news site. Kotaku is a green blob of the poop.

Still.. you could be right.

My bet is on 360 add-on info. I don't see why Nintendo would announce Wii details when they have a press conference scheduled for the middle of the month.

Disruption. Probably right though, this seems more a move by someone else to beat them to some punch.

I wouldn't mind that at all. Gets me closer to eventually getting one, should the need arise.

If you mean Sony's stock, that one I can tell you about without waiting for midnight.

But I doubt Sony will drop the price when they're losing $300 on every console sold.

I seriously doubt it. Why lower the price when they won't be shipping as many of them as they wanted, and they will sell out anyway?

It could be the PSP though. With rumors of a redesign, they may be ready to drop the price on the original model. EDIT: never mind-I noticed it said one of the next-generation consoles.

If it is Wii related, then it wouldn't be an official announcment, but rather Joystiq reporting leaked info.

But I agree it's probably 360 related. If not the addon, maybe a price drop or announcement of a new bundle.

I doubt it is this because they imply the news is something to get excited about with the line "but you have our word that this announcement is something worth waiting for". Unless you work for Microsoft or Nintendo I can't see why you'd be excited about that info. And besides, I don't think Sony would want any build up for bad news, so there'd be no reason for a delay. They'd just report it and be done with it.

I have a second cousin who has a third cousin on his other side of the family who has a gf whose dad's brother works for Microsoft, and he told me that the announcement will be that there will be a shortage of 360 systems for Christmas 2007.

Nah, probably more like Duke Nukem Forever now going back to scratch with a brand new, exciting engine! Expected to drop sometime in 2009.
