Movies That Would Be Too Expensive To Cast Now?

Thinking about movies early in actors' careers...

I volunteer....

200 Cigarettes.

What price a cast of Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck, Dave Chappelle, Kate Hudson, Paul Rudd and Christina Ricci?

Oh, and also...

Pleasantville...

Paul Walker, Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon... that's $40m and change to cast that movie now.

Ben Who? That guy hasn't been in a movie for years. I bet you could get him fairly cheap now.

Go - Katie Holmes, Taye Diggs, Timothy Olyphant, William Fitchner, Scott Wolf, Brecken Meyer, Jay Mohr

A few biggies and a lot of little ones, but they sure can add up.

The Quick and the Dead - Crowe and DiCaprio.

It's somewhat amazing to me that in this day and age Clooney and co. have been able to work out the finances of the Ocean's movies to be able to pay everyone.

Where's there one succesful movie actor in that bunch? They're all TV actors!

Besides, Katie wont do another movie till Cruise pays her the '5 Million exit fee' he promised her when he hired her to have his baby ...

I didn't realize that they all had to be 20M+ actors, I just thought we were talking about cost then vs. cost now and whether or not the movie, for what it was, could be made. I still think that whatever budget "Go" would garner today couldn't buy these same actors, but that's just my opinion

I don't think any movie would be too expensive to cast, as long as the director and/or producer has enough cred to make the project desirable to the actors. QT manages to get plently of big name actors to do his movies for almost nothing, or at least he did in the past.

Well, after his little stunt with Comedy Central, I imagine Dave Chappelle couldn't expect to get too much these days.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Dan Marino thinks he's all that.

Batman Forever - Val Kilmer, Jim Carrey, Tommy Lee Jones, Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, Jon Favreau

That would be more than $100M just for the cast.

Cable Guy

I know it was a disappointment, but I saw this the other day and it had Jim Carrey, Matthew Broderick, Owen Wilson and Jack Black. Try getting them all together on a major production today.

Of course I have seen many movies loaded with little appearances by stars who could be considered names, and when you get a bunch of people who are buddies repaying favors, you can get quite a few names for cheap.

The Outsiders

What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

And I think Ocean's 11 still takes the cake, as all those celebrities are famous right now.

They were just as famous then. Maybe Bernie Mac and Don Cheadle are the only ones who are more well-known now. Besides, they're doing sequels and they added Catherine Zeta Jones.

The Outsiders would be a killer though. C. Thomas Howell would come cheaper, but imagine the insurance on Leif Garrett.

To be fair, Val Kilmer and Tommy Lee Jones probably don't command that much anymore and Favreau was never a box office draw. Kidman, Barrymore, and Carrey are all much bigger now though.
