Cheapest place to buy school books?

Need your help!!!

I'm trying to lessen the burden of spending $500+ on high school books this year. If anyone knows of a place where I can find them at a "reasonable" price, please be kind and let me know.

Thanks much in advance.

I bought many of mine from private sellers at half.com.

Whoa, and yeah, I just caught that--high school? Since when do people pay for high school textbooks? Am I getting old?

That's why I asked for clarification. I teach at a public high school and all the books--texts, novels, etc.--are checked out from the library. Same everywhere, as far as I know. Wondering if the OP is a teacher?

Anyway, half.com and ther amazon marketplace would be good places to check first. Then local second hand book stores.

Thanks for the replies.

Unbelievable I know. It's for textbooks for a junior at a catholic school. Feel the pinch every year.

Thanks for the help. So far, I've managed to save around $100. Although, I've yet to find my most expensive textbooks.

Thanks again.

You could always just photocopy the books and return them.

BigWords.com used to have some good deals. A co-worker of mine just saved over $100 buying a book for one of his night classes through them.

I use www.bestbookbuys.com to find the best price among several websites. I end up buying international versions most of the time, they are identical in content, but usually have a soft cover, cheaper quality paper, and sometimes black and white photos instead of color. They are usually less than half the price of U.S. editions.

I've had the best luck with half.com

All my books new would have been $550, got them used on half.com for $247 with expedited shipping.

how about buying them from the students who are just finishing the class. They could use the $$$ for the books they have to buy and the books would be fairly recent. That's what I used to do in college.

I've saved around $350 buying on amazon.ca and .com. I'm gonna sell my old ones on there, too.

And yes, check out if there's any students leaving that have their old ones.

As for high school having to buy books, that's ridiculous. :x

What school? if you don't mind my asking I was in the same boat as you but dropped the 500$ at my school. There are so many texts really that there is plenty of competition at the amazon marketplace. Shipping is really a killer though for heavy books and buying from seperate people. Also I often find that people tend to leave books in the halls towards the end of the year just grab whatever you can. Maybe you can use it next year or even sell it.
