King of New York & Total Recall "Optimum Resolution DVD" 10/24?

Just saw these added to the DVDEmpire pre-order lists today. Any idea of the differences or is it just your standard quadruple dip money grab? Trying to trick people into thinking these are hi-def?

Wow, the packaging is a total "Superbits" ripoff. I also would like to know if these DVD contains different material from the other releases.

BTW, both of the artworks are horrible.

Why wouldn't they release them on HD as well?

Looks like just a silly Superbit-type ripoff (as mentioned, right down to the packaging). I suspect these will be the same thing -- just the films, no extras, 'optimized' bitrate.

Total Recall is supposed to be coming on Blu-ray in a month or so (? I think)... and it's rumored that Lion's Gate will be supporting HD-DVD soon. There's no reason to buy this.

I think it's just a fancy way of saying "Superbit". Either that or Lion's Gate is releasing standard DVD versions of upcoming Blu-ray releases they have planned. Yes, it does seem they are trying to trick the customer into thinking they'll get an HD or near-HD quality picture on a standard player.

Anyone have anything to say about these that have actually seen or compared them to the other releases? Can't find any reviews. Not that I'm expecting much...

I know of at least one sucker who when Resevoir Dogs came out the second time, he bought the same exact movie over and over just to collect all the different guys on the covers.

Optimum Resolution DVD
"This time, we're using the entire 720×480 frame!"

Seriously, big money says that there's still a bunch of free space left on these discs.

OK, so the Total Recall is a "snake oil" DVD, but if you don't yet have this movie on DVD, which version is best (widescreen 1080i TV with upconverting player)?
