Beverly Hills 90210 & Melrose Place 1st Seasons - 11/7/06
tvshowsondvd.com has announced a release date of 11/7/06 for the first seasons of Beverly Hills 90210 & Melrose Place.
Beverly Hills 90210 - 22 episodes - 6 discs (17+ hours)
Melrose Place - 32 episodes - 8 discs (25+ hours)

90210 is probably my favorite show, and I like Melrose Place, but I doubt I will buy these as they come out. I will probably wait until every season has been released, and make sure they did not alter any music. Seeing these episodes in chronological order on SoapNet is good enough for me right now.

You wont have to worry about every season being released for these. They will sell very well and it wouldn't shock me to see 90210 be the best selling tv series to ever hit dvd. I will be buying them as they come out regardless of music replacements. But i have a hunch all music will be intact on these. It would only be a wise investment for Paramount as they will get that money back easy and then some. They are gonna make a killing as these sales are gonna be through the roof.

90210 is probably my biggest guilty pleasure. I might wait until the first 7 seasons are all out (jumped the shark after they graduated college) before I buy though. Yeah, the music better remain intact. With all the acts that 'performed' on the show over the years, it would be hard to imagine the original music not being used.

The music will probably be on these because if I'm not mistaken that was one of the major issues with these releases (and probably why they didn't start coming out in 2003), and now hopefully they have the issue's resolved. (personally I'm buying these even if its just the score and no 'songs')...
I'm pretty sure these are going to be Full Frame releases, but I'm wondering what Bonus Features (if any) where looking at (this is paramount after all)... and a price, which will probably make or break the popularity of these sets...

It seems that no one's going to buy season 1 until after season 7 gets released.
But if no one buys season 1 soon after its release, they'll never get around to releasing season 7.
Perhaps they should release season 7 first.

The 1st season of Melrose Place was horrible (pre-Heather Locklear) There were some really bad storylines, pluse Thomas Calabro's character Michael Mancini wasn't the coniving snake that he became in later seasons.

Wow. You took that all from my post. I didn't know I spoke for all consumers. Cool.

A lot of people on different boards are saying that they are going to wait... this could honestly end up being another 'everwood' or 'boy meets world' (everyone wants the seasons, but they want to wait to make sure the series gets release, thus having having low sales figures, and future season's possibly cancelled)

I dont see 90210 tanking like Boy Meets World though. 90201 has many fans, BMW did not. I'll be picking up 90210 on day 1...never seen Melrose Place. Ive only seen about 20-30 episodes of 90210 on TBS and I liked it.

Two Interesting Bits:
Amazon has lowered there price to $36 for each set and they have some special features listed:
90210 - Select Episode Commentary by Daren Star
Interactive Featurette
Season 1 Episode Recaps
Melrose - Mini-Featurettes
Season 1 Episode Recaps
Its nice to know that paramount will be including something with these releases in the way of exras... Since they have missed out on awesome oportunities in the past (think 'Charmed').

Amazon even has a "The Good, the Bad & the Beautiful Pack", not sure what the difference is though between buying that or the individual seasons. The price however is cheaper if you buy individually.

I like both covers, eventhough the 90210 cover is photoshopped with pictures NOT from season 1 and the Merlose one looks more modern than 1992, but they could have been a lot worse...
I just went to amazon looking at their pages for these releases and noticed that the 2 pack (good, bad, beautiful) is listed for $ 63.87, which is almost $10 cheaper than buying the two seperately...

If Melrose didn't hire Heather Locklear for the 2nd half of season 1, the show would have almost certainly been cancelled. The 1st part of the season was almost unwatchable.

Ah that Melrose cover reminds me of my crush on Courtney Thorne-Smith
