Just saw this movie the other day for the first time, and thought it was really good. James Cagney is one of my favorite new actors (new to me), especially after seeing Yankee Doodle Dandy and Angels With Dirty Faces, and after watching The Public Enemy, that certified it.

However, I am curious about the film's ending.

Was Tom Powers knocked off that way because he killed "made men" without permission?
