Greatest "sad love story"?

Just like how we listen to songs that reflect how we feel at the time (damien rice during a breakup, the smiths during a rejection, dashboard confessionals during a whiny emo-momeny), what are some movies that best portray how it feels to be rejected, emotionally hurt, alone, etc.

My vote is Closer, which was a great movie but terrible choice to watch with a date

40 Year Old Virgin.......no, seriously though, I liked Amelie, mainly because of Audrey Tatou's overwhelminlgly likeable performance.

I'm gonna go with Love Story and The Notebook, but that's only b/c I don't watch many "love stories".

No votes for Waking the Dead with Billy Crudup and Jennifer Connelly yet? One of my all-time favorites.

Immortal Beloved

Whoever said "The Notebook"...I'm not sure I get that being a sad love story.
