Psych - Series Premiere - 7/7/06 - USA Network

I hadn't heard about this at all, then happened to see the 2 leads on one of the morning shows yesterday...Tivo is calling it a "Mystery/Crime" show, but I think it's supposed to be a comedy as well. Something about a psychic detective who isn't actually psychic - he's just very perseptive, but it's just him and his buddy that know this. Or something like that.

It's on 9:00-10:30 CST tonight on USA, and of course will be repeated plenty through the week.

I'll give it a whirl...I'm a bit more optimistic about mid-summer starting shows after Kyle XY impressed me last week.

I'm going to Tivo this tonight. The extended preview I watched yesterday had me cracking up. And it starts at 10 p.m. EST, btw.

It looks to be very much in the vein of Monk, with which USA is pairing it. From the commercials, it looks like it will be good. I'm looking forward to trying it.

I am looking foward to this, it seems this is a guy that is Monk trying to pass himself off as Johnny Smith. Looks good from the commercials, plus it has Monk as a lead in tonight.

I adore Dule Hill so I'm willing to give it a few episodes.

I think I may have seen an ad for this in a movie theater a few months back. Anyway, I'll be watching.

You must not watch USA network much, because they've been hyping this one to the moon for the last several weeks. It looks interesting.

Even if it its, it's going to be shown 4:3. I don't think USA even letterboxes. I can't wait until it's all HD, or at least upgraded to all digital.

Not a bad start at all. Seems like this show will be some good light entertainment.

My wife and I liked it a lot. Very "Monk-like" as far as looks, but it's interesting that they combined their detective and psychic genres into one series.

We laughed a number of times - and it took a trip to IMDB to realize that the lead in "Psych" was the "bad guy" race car driver in the Dukes of Hazzard movie - it was driving us nuts trying to place him...

Anyway, it was a solid pilot and we're going to stick with it for the time being.

I enjoyed it. It tried a little too hard for the humor sometimes, but it was fun nonetheless. Good to see Tim Omundson as the a-hole cop.

I liked it, i agree it did seem they were trying a little to hard to be funny, but was still a pretty enjoyable hour and half.

He's also in the movie "Rolling Kansas."

I, too, enjoyed it a lot. I think it IS filmed in widescreen and aired (obviously) in 4:3. Otherwise they need to get another Director of Photography, there was some serious cropping that I noticed a lot when they were by the rivers edge looking through the binoculars for the first time.

I wonder if this turns out to be a hit if USA will cancel Monk/Dead Zone since the show is a 2 for 1 deal?

I think Dead Zone is, well, Dead in the water. Its in its 5th season...and running out of steam. Alot of what made Season 1 and 2 good are long gone.

As for Monk...Its a pretty big hit for USA, right? Ive only seen 2-3 episodes.

There's a commercial with the lead arguing with someone else that he (the other guy) was born with his powers and it was easier, and then the other guy said the lead of Psych had it easier, then you hear Monk counting corn bits on the next table and they say to each other (not to Monk) it could be worse. Hey they're picking on Monk!

I'm a Monk fanatic. Love the show. Have seen all of season 1 and a bunch of episodes (Tivo) of the other seasons. The new episode about the actor was funny. I loved Psych. I don't want to compare it to Monk, both shows are great. However, character-wise, Monk is a sweetheart and the Psych guy is a jerk. I'll be watching BOTH series Along with CSI and Survivor, I'm set.

USA crosses over their characters in commercials. It would be fun to have them cross over in the series too.

The wife and I enjoyed this show. It was genuinely clever with a few laugh outloud moments. It'll be nice to have a good show to watch during the summer.

Paraphrased:

"What magnification are these binoculars?"
"2x."
"OK, we gotta stop by Wal-Mart on the way home."

I enjoyed it. It felt like they made a 2 hour pilot out of a 1 hour episode, though. It drug a bit. I hope they don't try to get too corny with they psychic thing because he is a bit over the top with it. So long as they don't make too much of an obvious mockery (though psychics should be mocked) out of it and make sure it is a detective show first, I will be tuning in.

You're right. Still felt like they stretched a regular episode.
