Black Rain SE!!

Per TDB!

Also, on the standard DVD front, word has reached us that Paramount is working on a new special edition of Ridley Scott's Black Rain for release later in 2006.

I'm wondering how much of these extras will be on the HD version.

I own the non-anamorphic region 1 release, this needs an upgrade for sure. I'd buy it alone just to rid myself of the dvd's poor transfer.

Perhaps Paramount may also release 1492 later in 2006, since they have dug up this little gem of Scott's and are dusting the cobwebs off it.

My collection would welcome this rerelease (Paramount...anamorphic please!).

1492 is a no-brainer to coincide with this! Come on, Paramount, almost every other Ridley film is available as a loaded SE!

As with DVD ... Black Rain has been announced as one of Paramounts initial HD-DVD releases.

I'm about done with DVD ... they are re-releasing all of their really old DVD titles, just to get a quick buck before releasing them again for the new formats (i.e., Paramount just re-released Mission: Impossible, which is also slated for an early next gen release).

It makes sense for them to re-release it on DVD if they are fixing it up for HD, they've already put the money into it and not everyone is going to get an HD player... I know I won't be buying one.

If only it had a cover that featured only Andy Garcia's head. I'd buy this shitty movie just for that!

Eventually you will...or you're only in this for the DVD technology.

I said something like that once, but at the time, I was coveting my beloved Laserdisc player, baulking at the fledgling DVD technology.

I eventually ate my words, at the ridicule of my peers ... and it was less than 6 months after the release of the first DVD players.

About time.

This is a title I've been dying to get on DVD, but I didn't want to get the substandard, non-anamorphic version.

I'm glad we'll see it before the end of the year.

I'm in it for the movies, does that mean that I'm allowed to have an opinion which disagrees with yours? Because I actually think 'Black Rain' would be a perfect example of the sort of movie I wouldn't re-buy just because it comes out in HD. I want the SE, and if the HD version were the same price and I already had the equipment, I wouldn't avoid buying it, but I don't care enough about the movie to hold out until I've got all the equipment (which will not be for a while, and is assuming that HD will hit in the same way that DVDs did, rather than hitting in the way that LDs did which seems more likely) or to buy it again when I've got the HD set up.

I've watched DVDs and HD movies on HBO-HD etc. Sure the HD is a bit better, but DVDs also look great. If it's just for the video quality alone, I may upgrade several titles down the road, but not too many.

I would have to agree with the last two posts, I wouldn't care enough either to hold off on this upcoming SE of Black Rain for a future Hi-Def release, that is if I had bought a player capable of displaying Hi-Definition images. Besides, I think that kind of perfected quality would only really matter for the movies we are all simply crazy for. At least for me, I would only want that kind of quality for movies that are truly my all-time favorites. Black Rain, I love the film, but it's not my all-time favorite film, so that SE dvd is a date.

Good news, hope it happens faster than the Blade Runner SE that was supposed to happen so many years ago...
