superman dvds; promo comics & lithos.. repost

ok.. i posted this yesterday, & it was apparently locked...
as for my feelings on that..
https://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?p=7106678

after reviewing the rules,
im guessing the circuity city links i had were mistaken for advertising..?
my using the word 'ad' in the links, (refering to it being the sunday ad) couldnt have helped..

so im reposting the whole thing, minus the links..
in their place will be a screen cap of the main page i was talking about..
i dont think you can call that advertising.. & if you can,
then it also counts everytime someone just mentions a store name, no matter what the content..
& just try talking about shopping experiences without doing that..

*********************

i wasnt sure exactly where this post should go,
so i just posted here & summarized the relevant info in another post..
https://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?p=7105343

although i knew about 'superman day' well in advance,
i didnt save up anything, & actually ended up spending all my $
on various 'fathers day' titled sales..

sunday;
then in the paper are the ads for best buy & circuit city..

the words 'on pack' made me wonder if there were 8 different comics,
so after searching the forums a little, the only thing i learned
was that the documentary was being released as a 2 disc with promo postcards..
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=187

i figured, i could get that & the free comic theyd be handing out,
& then go to circuit city to grab krypto, click promo, & the 4 litho set..

tuesday;
grabbed the 2 disc documentary, syriana +promo,
three kings(2/$20), & ultimate quake ($15)..

while there, i noticed they had a pile of pink panther woopie cushions,
that they didnt have when they said they ran out.. (on a tuesday?)
(& i went to another best buy to get it)
either they got more, or they never put them out initially..? hmm..

i forgot about the comic though,
& only remembered just before leaving the parking lot..
i should have just left my bag in the car,
cause the guy at the door stuck pink stickers
on eveything when i went back in..

apparently they changed the superman display
that has been sitting there for over a month..
now it had pictures of the comics covers,
confirming that there were in fact 8 of them
& packaged with the releases.. 8 new releases, 8 comics..
i guess id be buying the documentary 2ce then..?

circuit city meanwhile still had a bunch of click promos, only 1 krypto,
& said they didnt receive the lithos to hand out but would put me on a list
& call me if anything turns up..

i was sceptical, because the dvds had a sticker
similar to the best buy releases, mentioning the 4 lithos.. 'collect all 4'
but i wasnt sure if theyd still be handing out litho 4 packs,
like the 6 xmen posters a few weeks ago..

when i got home & opened everything, the postcards with the documentary
had a nasty grease stain on the last one, from the type of glue they used.. -_-;
syriana looked like the promo disc was missing,
but apparently they just expanded the case!
& should quake have any inserts or a book or anything?
its just a cardboard box, a jewel case, & 3 cds..

wednesday;
after eventually convincing my family to drop by checkintocash for me,
i had some shiny new dollars, & ran back to best buy..
this time i brought my camera & took a cheap photo
of part of the superman display, just where it shows the comics..

then i noticed the part where it said 'comic covers'
& realized they must all be the same comic.. ^^;

eventually grabbed all the new releases with the comic indicating stickers
then i noticed the sticker didnt mention the documentary as one of the 8,
the 8th one was the '1st season 3 pack'.. (same as asin: B000FMGTSA)

i asked some guy working there & he dug one out of the display,
the comic can be seen between 2 of the sets, & its all just wrapped
up in plastic, no special box or anything if you were maybe thinking that..
i think the price tag said $125, but when you can buy all 3 individually
for cheaper than that, & i already have those 3 anyway..
i guess ill only get to have 7 of the 8 comics,
but at least i wont end up with 2 copies of the documentary..

a week or so ago,
they let me get $5 off both dharma&greg, & beavis&butthead (+promo)..
because target had the same price & was offering giftcards..

same story with lois&clark this week, but different person at the register..
wouldnt give me the $5 off, wouldnt even bother to ask a higher up employee..
annoyed, i made them pricematch the $1 difference on both krypto & brainiac.. lol

then went to the next closest circuit city, a bit out of town..
asked a few people, & some girl said they WERE giving out the superman lithos,
& that they ran out.. but she said it with so little hesitation,
that i immediately questioned her sincerity..
& i left feeling slightly reassured, but now thats 2 stores with no lithos..

thursday;
this time tried a 3rd circuit city, even further out of town..

my copy of krypto from the 1st circuit city
had this rattling noise i didnt like, typical of loose discs..
i had intended to exchange it, but forgot it at home..
which also meant id have to buy something if they did have promos..

couldnt find any other copies of krypto,
so i grabbed the next cheapest one.. brainiac
this one guy said they didnt have any superman lithos,
even pointing out that it should mention the promo on the monitor when it rings up..

(unlike the 1st circuit city where i live,
their computers are still in the 80s with green monochrome..
& dont even ask if they have something in stock,
they have to pull out a giant binder to look it up..)

but he ran to the back to check if there was anything anyway..
while i was waiting for him to come back,
i noticed a sign posted by the register..

when he came back, i pointed out the sign & everything made sense..
then i asked if i could get a xerox of it & some other guy went & did that,
so i went ahead & bought brainiac anyway..

i also noticed it rattled the same as krypto & realized it must be the litho
& not a loose disc in either case..

went home & opened everything up finally, & took some pictures..

i was worried at 1st that maybe the comics would be randomly inserted,
but it turns out i have 7 different ones, so apparently not..
& they ARE all the same comic, 24 pages..
(wouldve been cooler if they just picked 8 different comics
from important moments in superman history..)
the center page also shows all 8 comics, so my display photo wasnt necessary..

so i just need the 8th comic & 2 more lithos..
but now i have extra copies of krypto & brainiac that my family might want..

still no way to be sure if the lithos are randomly inserted,
but im guessing the 4 animated releases will each have a different one,
since the lithos are of the animated superman..

the comic with my copy of superboy is missing 8 pages from the center,
so ill have to exchange that later.. & while im there ill exchange the documentary..
i expect they used the same glue on all of them, so every copy should have a stain..
but i may as well make them open at least 1 to prove it..
i might get lucky & get to exchange it with one thats not stained..

i know some people think factory defects are more collectible sometimes,
but the 8 missing pages i mentioned shouldnt count, im guessing..
i mean you could just tear pages out & have the same thing right..?

friday;
itd be easier to grab the ads off the websites than to scan them..
doing that, leads to a funny link, & a larger view of the pic used for the ad..

(no links, but screen cap this time..)

those should be the ads for my zip code, yours might look different,
or the links might not work if they are using cookies.. i dunno..
that 'add to shopping list' link has no effect on the web cart,
so i dont know what its usefullness could be..

yesterday the 1st seasons 3 pack was around $112 on amazon, now its $160?!
what is wrong with these people..? thats more than $50 a set,
all of which have never been more than $40..
& curently 2 of those sets are $17 & $25 at circuit city..
(thatd mean lois&clark season 1 was $118?)

if i had enough $, i might get it at best buy, just for the comic,
then try to sell the sets individually..
but i think their price was around $125, so itd still be hard
to sell the dvds without taking a loss..

i also made a graphic, & some scans of my lithos..

as for the 1 response my post got before it was locked..

- I had to switch out 3 different sets with stickers on-pack to get sets that actually had a comic inside them at Best Buy
- It isn't even close to worth it to try and get all 8 Comics as well as the 4 lithos.
hmm.. once i saw the documentary wasnt listed on the sticker,
i completely forgot it was featured in the ad mentioning the comic..
i guess both stores had misprints then..

well, all the ones i grabbed had the comics, so maybe i got lucky..
but if there are some with the stickers & no comics,
then ill have to be sure to open it & check when i exchange superboy..

as for it being 'worth it'.. yeah, i went a bit out of my way..
sure i spent more than i wouldve on say amazon or wherever..
i couldve sat around & waited for the sets to all go on sale cheaper eventually..
but everything i bought, i was going to buy anyway..

except for the extra copies of krypto & brainiac that my family might want,
which only set me back an additional $25, or $4 if you subtract the movie cash..

of course theres also the checkintocash fee,
but i was mostly getting that so i could still afford some other sales,
& the savings were greater than the cost in my opinion..
