Scarface (Platinum Edition) due 10/3
http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/scarface.html: Universal Home Video has sent over early details on a Platinum Edition of the Brian De Palma directed Scarface which stars Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert Loggia. This two-disc package will be available to own from the 3rd October, and should set you back around $29.98. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Universal has yet to reveal the disc specs.

Universal has yet to reveal the disc specs I'm afraid, but we'll bring you further details very shortly. As always, stay tuned.

I'd be happy if they got rid of the stupid "why rappers like this movie" featurette, and included the original on the 2nd disc.... I sold the huge box awhile ago and never got around to buying the Anniversary edition, so I'll be waiting to see the official specs on this release.

I had heard that they had the transfer and dts mix on the previous release completed for several years (scheduled to come out 'round the same time as Cape Fear and An American Werewolf In London) before they released it as an "anniversary edition".
Perhaps this will be a new transfer, a downconversion of an HD master?

C'mon Universal, why bother with a re-release if it isn't going to be for HD DVD?

I have to believe that this will come out on HD on the same day. This is the same thing that happened with Backdraft: they announced the SD release, then a month or so later, they announced the HD release. Besides, as Universal has only announced through September for their HD titles so far, we have yet to see what October really has to offer...and my bet is that Scarface will show up (barring any issues with the length...).

I see no reason to re-release this movie unless something is being added. And I would definitely pick up an HD version.

I am amazed they resisted the urge to have a silly special edition name. In case they need any ideas:
Scarface: Her womb is so polluted Edition
Scarface: I am a political Refugee from Cuba Edition
Scarface: Say Hello to my little friend Edition
Scarface: Yayo Edition

what a joke.
so many great films out there deserving of the SE treatment...
don't get me wrong, I own the 2-disc of Scarface, but this is getting ridiculous.

I say "F you" to Universal too. I already have 2 versions of this on DVD. I can't imagine that it'll have a greatly improved transfer since the Anniversary Edition already had a remastered transfer better than the original. Unless it hits on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray I'm content with what I have.
