Have sequels ever been remade that followed a remake of the first film?
I know the subject probably isn't as clear as it could be, but I wasn't sure how to describe it. Here's what I'm wondering:
Say there was a movie that had 1 or 2 sequels. Has there ever been a case where the first movie was remade, and then the second movie was remade? First, I mean actually in series, not like how Night of the Living Dead was remade, and later and unrelatedly, Dawn of the Dead was remade. Also, I don't mean like how The Hills Have Eyes was remade and then there's gonna be a Hills Have Eyes 2, because that won't have anything to do with the original Hills Have Eyes 2 from what I've heard.

Like, if Peter Jackson were to do a "Son of Kong" film in 2008? Or if somebody were to remake The Godfather, then a couple of years later, remake part 2, then part 3 (so there's a trilogy, then a remake of the trilogy)? That's a good question. I can't recall that having ever happened.

The closest that I can think of is the Spencer Tracey-Elizabeth Taylor 'Father of the Bride' and 'Father's Little Dividend' and the Steve Martin 'Father of the Bride' and 'Father of the Bride Part II'.

Well, the thing about "The Silence of the Lambs" is that the producers actually went out of their way to not make it a sequel to "Manhunter". Colleen Atwood designed the costumes for both films and Dan Butler & Frankie Faison appeared in different roles but no attempts were made to recast any of the three characters that appeared in both films (Lecter, Crawford and Chilton) nor were any attempts made to recreate stuff like Lecter's cell, etc. As a matter of fact, Orion was ready to go ahead and change the name of the three characters if Dino De Laurentiis wouldn't give them the rights but he didn't see any potential in them and let Orion use them.
"Manhunter" and "The Silence of the Lambs" are no more related than, say, any two "Sherlock Holmes" or "Dracula" productions. The books upon which they're based are connected but as two cinematic productions they are unrelated.
"Red Dragon", on the other hand, was specifically made to tie in with "The Silence of the Lambs".

Even though they wanted to make their production different; they hired the same DP that worked on Manhunter. It had the same look as Manhunter.
