Done the Impossible - Firefly/Serenity Fan Documentary
I stumbled onto this site the other day while trying to find info on Firefly/Serenity DVD sales. It's an independantly released documentary about the fans of Joss Whedon's Firefly and Serenity. It looks like they scored interviews with most of the actors, and Jewel Staite is even doing the voice over work for some of the special features.
Anybody following the production of this? Looks like it should be out next month. I preordered a copy and am anxiously awaiting it!

Just bumping this up... the DVD is out (mine arrived over the weekend). I haven't had a chance to watch it completely... but I sampled a bit of it and it looks fantastic.

I'm still waiting for my copy, but the documentary (sans the extensive extras) is available for legal download from http://www.legaltorrents.com/index.htm. Here's what the creators have to say about this:
[Why Release a "Free" version]
Great question, two answers.
1. We philosophically agree with the concepts of Creative Commons. In our opinion, the modern state of copyright is counter productive to creativity and free culture. It puts unnatural restraints on "fair use", hinders the creative process and has fundamentally destroyed an entire industry before it was even born. Just think of the amazing products, enhancements, embellishments and re-mixes to creative works that could be built with today's technology and talents. But because modern copyrights are so restrictive, nobody dares do anything that *might* infringe on somebody's oh so holy copyright. Thus, we have chosen to not go down that road with our documentary. Enjoy it, share it, re-mix it all you like, just be sure to follow the license below. But remember, producing this documentary was not cheap, so please support the creators of the documentary and it's soundtrack by purchasing the full DVD and soundtrack at:
http://www.DoneTheImpossible.com
(or just send us some money via PayPal: [email protected], we won't mind...)
2. This release is a preemptive strike. Somebody would have released our documentary via P2P (bittorrent, etc) anyway. By releasing it ourselves, we at least have control over the quality and exact content. Basically the documentary becomes a marketing tool for the full DVD with all of it's extensive special feature described above.
If you purchased our DVD and are feeling a bit slighted by this "free" release, we understand. But remember, somebody else would have released it anyway, so why not us? And remember your DVD contains much more than this P2P release of the documentary.
The P2P release of "Done the Impossible" was originally released on LegalTorrents.com, please respect copyrights, even if you don't fully agree with the current implementation.
All that being said, I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive before watching this, so as to get the full effect.

I got my copy a few days ago-I enjoyed it; mosly just browncoats discussing the show from inception to serenity; there's a lot of special features, though. The DVD-rom stuff is supposed to be over 5 hours long, though I haven't delved into it too much yet. Also the easter eggs (there's 5 or 6) are very good-the 2 i found so far are almost 10 minutes apiece. Overall, if you're craving more serenity\firefly stuff, this is a great addition.

Thanks for bumping this because I missed this the first time around...Im downloading now, although Im sure I will eventually be buying this . Since this doc was shot in high definition, is it safe to assume the DVD is anamorphic? Also, could it possibly end up on HDNet in the near future?

you download the torrent file. Then with your bittorrent program, you tell it to open that file, which will then start your download process.
If you use a mac I suggest transmission.

This wasn't made by the same fans who made "Firefly - A Special Feature", was it? Because that was downright insufferable.

Ya know- if they had been topless, that might've helped the original movie's ticket sales so it wouldn't have flopped
