Should I just throw my DVD player away?

So here's the problem:

I have a Daewoo 5800. Had it for about two years. HEAVY use, as I watch a ton of movies. About a year ago the loaded died so I replaced it with a slot loading DVD drive from my PC. Worked fine.

This afternoon, I went to turn it on, and no dice. The red light went on, but that's it.

I'm assuming it's the power supply that has died.

The question is, should I just chalk it up as an L and go buy a new one or can it be salvaged? It's region free and has no Macrovision, which comes in handy once and a while, so it's a good machine that I don't want to rid myself of.

If you decide to have it repaired by a professional technician, it's going cost you a lot more to repair, than what the DVD Player is actually worth, considering the brand name, and depreciation value. Other technical difficulties may occur within the unit, after being repaired, and that will be money wasted. It would be wise to purchase a brand new DVD player, and keep the current one to use as a secondary for another room in your home.

Not sure how many machines now have disabled Macrovision (not many probably) but i'd still chuck it and buy a new one. Repair bills can get stupid for electrical gear.

Just the hourly wage for the repair man before he even buys any spare parts (assuming it can be fixed) will be obscene.

Actually, you are supposed to recycle electronics.

The fee just to check out the unit will probably be $40-80. That's about the price of a new region-free Daewoo.

Check your Target for a Daewoo 9200N, not sure about the MV but it's region free-able.
