Help with movie title

Saw this at the drive-in as a kid in the early mid-sixties. Thought it might be Disney but couldn't track it down. Here goes...There is a dog that lives aboard a U.S. Navy ship. I think it might have been the pet of the first mate or somebody. Once while the ship is in port the dog accidently gets left behind on the dock. A crewmember from another ship, freighter or something finds the dog and takes it aboard. The crew of this second ship take to the dog and sorta adopt it. At the end of the movie these two ship come across each other at sea. A line is strung between the two ships and the dog is sent across to the original owner(s) in a basket.

That's probably it. Doesn't look like there's much chance of ever finding out for sure. Wonder if Disney plans to ever do anything with all those made for tv shows from the 60s or just let them rot.
