Italian cinema is by no means a strength of mine and while I can't speak to the quality of the film, one I've had my eye on is a WWII drama entitled Il Partigiano Johnny (2000).

Italian cinema is outstanding! I'm sure Pro-Bassoonist will provide you a more comprehensive list soon (or check his previous posts), but here's a short list to get you started:

Ricordati di me; La finestra di fronte; La spetattrice; l'ultimo baccio; La bestia nel cuore; Non ti muovere

Enjoy (Italy and the movies)! I'm envious that you're moving there (love the country)!

The most important to me is not buying DVDs but not getting a car accident.
(my experience is limited to Torino)

Ted has given you some very good suggestions....so if you specify the time frame (do you like classic or modern Italian cinema) I can quickly upload portions of my collection for you.

Ciao,

Been there twice...not a big metro area but nevertheless excellent place to meet interesting people. Make sure you visit the Sunday market and have a cup of espresso.

You are indeed a lucky man!!

Ah, Italy. Just love the country. I´ve been so many time that I have lost count.

I even have a timeshare apartment at Lake Como ...not to far from George Clooneys villa Oleandra in the city of Laglio.

A great place to visit is Villa del Balbianello. Has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. Not strange since several movies has been shooting there. The latest being James Bond: Casino Royale.

I try to collect all movies that takes place or has scenes in Italy. An odd thing, yes, but fun.
