Star Trek season pricedrop schedule?
I've just started collecting star trek series sets and noticed that TNG and DS9 all have (or will soon) drop to the ~$50 mark. Has there been any news on Voyager, Enterprise, and the Original Series dropping?

the first 3 seasons of TNG seem to be much cheaper now than about a year ago. I am hoping the rest of TNG drops as well, that would be awesome

I'll certainly consider DS9 after a price drop. Although I didn't always love it at the time, the show plays a lot better now when compared with Voyager and Enterprise.

I have a feeling that Voyager and Enterprise will be getting price drops after they've done all of the TNG and DS9 sets.
They could probably go like this:
Round 1: Voy 1-3, TOS 1-3
Round 2: Voy 4-5, Ent 1-2
Round 3: Voy 6-7, Ent 3-4
But I have my doubts that TOS will get a price cut. It's the Star Trek crown jewel, after all, and there were only three seasons of it. Three seasons at $100 a pop is far less taxing on the consumer than seven seasons of Voyager at $100 a pop.

Any chance the last two seasons of TNG will drop down to $50 soon? I'm on the last episode of Season 5 and would like to move on to the next season, but not for the current 100+ asking price.

I read somewhere recently that Paramount is albeit quietly re-mastering TOS,NG,VOY & DS9 for their eventual HD DVD releases. Pristine HD versions of Enterprise currently exist so they are already ready to go. Could be that they'll lower the prices rather drastically on all the SD DVD editions once these and the feature films street in their Hi-Def Couture.

I don't think shows like Next Generation would benefit at all from HD. I think it has something to do with how it was filmed. It could even stand to be a little bit sharper on DVD, oh well.
However, like you said, other Star Trek shows were filmed in a different manner that would definitely benefit from HD.

TNG, DS9 and Voyager although being shot on film were edited on 480i SD videotape. Alot of the FX were done on video as well. They will never look better resolution-wise than they do now since the masters are all 480i video. (A shame as the original 35mm footage at least for the live action could look great.) Going to HD would simply mean that they upconverted the SD signal like you could with an upconverting DVD player. A waste of time. TOS was shot AND edited on film so the masters are 35mm and can look MUCH better. Of course this is apramount who will milk TREK until the end of time so it wouldn't surprise me if they try and release them "NOW IN HD!!!" anyway.

is this true? someone told my friend star trek tos seasons 1 to 3 will just be on 1 hd-dvd instead of three dvds season sets, he said the same thing will also happen with Star Trek Next Generation all seasons on 1 hd-dvd. He says hd-dvds carry much more data than regular dvds. if this is true this would be a major selling point for me to get hd-dvds. example all 20 seasons of Gunsmoke on 1 hd-dvd instead of 20 seasonsets dvds. does anyone have any more info? thanks

According to mcarver's price reduction thread DS9 season 6 and 7, TNG seasons 6 and 7, and TOS seasons 1, 2, and 3, will be receiving price reductions on Aug. 8, 2006. (Which would've been yesterday, actually.)

By the way, Amazon and DVDEmpire aren't showing any kind of price drop, but DeepDiscountDVD has Star Trek TOS Season 1-3 for $51.43 each, and Star Trek Complete Original Series for $137.31.

That's sweet. I was holding out for a major price drop before I bought TOS S3. This will be really sweet when the next 20% sale comes around.
