Barnes And Noble June Sale

Hey, I work at Barnes & Noble in the media department, and my manager told me that we are definitely having the June "Buy 2 get 1 free sale." I know this is for in-store, but I'm not 100% sure about online. Just thought I'd give everyone the heads up. Even though Barnes and Noble prices are straight up list prices, when averaged out, the B2G1F sale makes for some pretty decent deals. Here's my calculations for common B&N prices (tax not included, since it's different for each location):

B&N price / Total Cost / Cost Per DVD

$9.99 / $19.98 / $6.66
$14.99 / $29.98 / $9.99
$19.99 / $39.98 / $13.33
$24.99 / $49.98 / $16.66
$29.99 / $59.98 / $19.99
$39.99 / $71.98 / $23.99 ($39.99 and above are 10% off automatically, I calculated that in)

So anyways, depending on what you get, it might be worth your while.

With deepdiscountdvd also having (we hope) their annual 20% off sale, there's gonna be some seriously depleted bank accounts next month!

In past years, I've gotten BBC titles at the B&N 3-for-2 sale since they're rarely less than 25% off at ddd, but with ddd's recent BBC sale, I've caught up on my BBC stuff ;-)

If they dont raise all their prices to list, it will be worth it. Essentially your getting like 33% off if you buy 2 at list and get 1 free purchased at list. That isnt that great of a deal.

We shall see.

Well, it is actually more like 46%-51% off with the BN Member card and also know that all boxsets (3+ disks is what I was told last year) are always 10% or more off to begin with. So for boxsets you are starting out at 40% off, then adding in member discount (yes, $25 a year) PLUS, if like last year, additional member 10% off WHOLE transaction coupons.

What I like about this sale is that you can pick and choose, to a certain extent, rather than waiting for Suncoast out-of-business sales and for some the instant gratification is there, plus you can pre-check for loose disks and a place to directly return them if defective.

I look forward to this sale each year. Last year MCA and some other studios did not participate (A-Team, Magnum, Buck Rogers, etc.).

But like anywhere else, including DDD 20% sale, I check prices and then decide what is the best deal and if I really want to buy whatever for that price. So although they may be "good deals" I may not buy because I don't want it now or I am not willing to pay that amount for whatever (not worth it to me).

my 2 pennies.

I don't work again till Saturday, but I will definitely check and see what our in-store prices are for you. Which Star Treks are you talking about, by the way?

STNG, STDS9, and ST Voyager. I want to know what the prices are so I can buy all of these sets together. With the B2G1 free going on, it would be a really good price if they also have the recent price reduction.

B&N usually has lots of dvd sets at 30% off on their site. Do they usually jack the prices during the sale, or are their still some good deals?

I may very well be wrong, and hopefully you can confirm, but...

Aren't the web prices always the same as the in-store prices at BN (not taking coupons or rebates into account)??

I always thought that was one of the reasons they were able to do the store availabilty and store pickup stuff.

Actually the store prices and the online prices are different I once went in to buy a book and saw it online cheaper and when i went to buy it at the store was told by the clerk that prices are always higher in the stores. maybe it is different for other stuff but that was my BOOK experience.
I guess when you purchase it online for store pickup that is different you get what you paid for b/c you bought the item online.

well hope the sale is a good one

No, prices ARE different between online and in-store - unless you count selling at MSRP the same. B&N sells books, music and DVD's at generally MSRP. Yes, all boxsets are generally 10% off to start with, maybe as high as 20-30%.

If I see something in the store, I check it out online too. Sometimes its cheaper in-store, on a clearance or whatever that is not happening online. Online I can get free 3-day shipping via UPS for buying $25 or more, so if cheaper online, then I go that way. Plus they charge 1-2% less tax (no local) online, so that saves alittle too.

And no I have not seen them raise prices during the sale. The 10% atleast off boxsets as well as other new releases, etc. still happen and exist throughout the sale.

From what I have experienced over the last several years is that it is truly a sale on top of their usual prices, making them now more reasonable than MSRP, or close to it.
