Supernatural Season 1 ---> Sept. 6

TVshowsondvd.com

Just posted information that the first season will be coming on Sept. 6 for $59.99. They has art and an overview of the extra's listen on the website.

I really really really love the cover art. I saw that the region 2 cover for season 1, part 1 was this picture, and I got really really jealous. I'm glad that I don't have to be jealous any more.

Out of all the new shows this year, this is the DVD release I'm most looking forward to.

I'll be picking this up. I stopped watching for a patch of 6-7 episodes, but have watched a couple of episodes in the last few weeks, including last week, and will watch the finale tonight.

Now, we just need news that it will be renewed for another season.

Although not definitive proof....there is apparently a DVD-ROM in the extras that containing a sneak peak of Seaon 2. So there is hope!

Most definitely can't wait for this. Aug./Sept./October are busy TV months for me with ROME, Prison Break, Supernatural and LOST.

I can't wait for this.

I have a major concern though. The show uses a LOT of commercial rock music in it. Just about every episode has at least 1 well known rock song in it somewhere. I'm worried that they will remove it/change it for the DVD release due to licensing costs.

I'm not too worried about the music, I think most of the contracvts used now include some provision for home video rights, considering how big DVD sales can be.... I could be wrong....

In any case, looking forward to this release!

You don't need to be worried about the music. 'Smallville,' 'The oc,' and 'One Tree Hill' are probably the three most music heavy television series right now (and they are all owned by warner brothers, as is "supernatural") and all of there DVD releases have had the original music (except I believe one song in the first season of 'smallville' was changed for some reason or another). Today when a song is licenced for television they also license it for the 'home video rights', and this is fairly recent (only the last 4 years or so because of the popularity of DVD). Shows like "Dawson's Creek" have major problems because when they licensed the music they only did it for broadcast and by the times the DVDs came around most of the unknown bands had become somebodies and they wanted too much for the home video license.

Well, that's re-assuring. Can't wait for this release. Missed a bunch of eps this season, so I plan to sit down and watch it back to back when it's released.

Other than the information on their web site? Are you asking about the content of the disc?

I created a thread a couple weeks when it was first posted on BB.com.

I have an early review copy, and it appears that all of the original music (Black Sabbath, Rush, Ratt, AC/DC, etc) is still there.

So we should have a review soon then? Has anyone else posted any reviews of the set yet?

Bravo! I love DigitallyObsessed reviews. It's the detail paid to the bonus features that really make them stand apart from most other reviews (DVD Movie Guide excells here as well). I love having exact running times on bonus material.

Nice review.

The Best Buy bonus disc with the Museum of TV & Radio session is awesome...well worth watching and well done...my question is, why would this extremely substantial extra (72min) be relegated to a bonus disc only? I think it easily should have made the actual set...nevertheless, glad I paid the extra $2 to pick it up at BB and get the disc.

Was at least one song replaced on the soundtrack to the DVD?

I'm asking because in the Pilot episode of the Season 1 DVD, Sam is critical of how old Dean's tape collection is and holds up a tape and says "Metallica?" Dean takes the tape from him and starts playing it in the tape deck. But what do we hear? AC/DC's "Back in Black" instead of something by Metallica. (A vast improvement musically, IMO, but a mistake nonetheless.)

Was this mistake originally in the Pilot episode, or was it originally a Metallica song that had to be replaced on the DVD version of the episode due to music rights issues?

From TV.com

Music featured in this episode included:
"Gasoline" by The Living Daylights
"What Cha Gonna Do" by Classic
"Speaking In Tongues" by Eagles Of Death Metal
"Ramblin' Man" by Allman Brothers Band
"Back In Black" by AC/DC
"Highway To Hell" by AC/DC
"My Cheatin' Ways" by Kid Gloves Music
"What Cha Gonna Do" by Classic

So, looks like that was the way it was in the original airing.
