The Bear/L'Ours (Annaud, 1988) opinions?
I've been interested in finding a better edition of The Bear than the R1 flipper (or fullscreen-only edition that's mostly around now) but can't seem to dig up any actual reviews of the French disc. There are single and double-disc releases available, and I'm mostly trying to find if there are subtitles on the disc, though hardly essential for this one, and whether or not there was an alternate cut of the film overseas.
The French disc also apparently includes both full- and widescreen versions; anyone know if this would be a flipper or not? It's not very common for R2 discs to do this, but not unheard of.

I suppose you mean by "fullscreen" 2.35:1 ratio, the last french edition is 2.35:1
anamorphic 16/9, french hearing impaired subs only.
negative points:
"La lumière manque parfois car les couleurs sont assez ternes surtout en arrière-plan.
Des fourmillements sont visibles et les images font quelques fois des soubresauts, mais le transfert reste correct."
Light is missing sometimes because the colors are a bit dull, especially in the backgrounds.
Some noises are visible and the image is sometime jerking, but the transfer is mostly correct.
Complete review in french here.
